Well I had an idea, I may not want to spend money on a scooter.. but I can throw a little honda engine right onto my bike! It's perfectly street legal. Just no crash test ratings

It will be a nice 150 MPG rather than what my current car gives me, sometimes 19-21 mpg

Overall I think it will be a fun project if I do get around to it

Gas tank will be an empty and rinsed oil bottle with two holes on the cap, sealed.
The holes will have tubing to the carb, aswel as a return line. The bottle will be de-labeled and strapped onto the frame and I can check the fuel level by reading through the clear strip on the oil bottle!
Mua Ha Ha Ha

Did you notice that they are now 4-stroke engines with cdi ignition?

A friends father used to carry one in the bomb bay of his B-36 when he went TDY. When he transitioned to B-52s and could no longer take it with him, my friend got it. It was a complete from the factory whizzer, frame and all, not a conversion.

The original ones were 4-stroke sidevalve engines. About 1.5hp. I remember the teenager on a neighboring farm got one in 1945, I think. Caused quite a commotion in the neighborhood. In the 50's someone imported a similar bike with 2 stroke engine, from Italy, I think. The original Hondas were little 2 stroke conversions for regular bikes, hand made in old man Hondas garage.

Now that you mention it, sidevalve rings a bell.

I googled whizzer and it looks like my friends was a Pacemaker model. Kinda of interesting that his father carried it various foreign lands in a B-36 Peacemaker.

Most likely chain driven, to en extra sproket.
Found an excellent pan for holding the motor, I just have to bolt it on and find a way to mount it on the bike.
I may have to do some welding.
Duct-tape can take care of the fuel tank.
Hmm, what about DUAL fuel tanks???

I'm going to have fun with this.

I'm partial to a Wallyworld 5 qt size M1 oil fuel tank. They are racing silver in color and have the clear strip down the side for level checking. I'm not responsible if you end up doing an imitation if a dissatisfied Bhuddhist monk though.

If you go chain drive, it would be a kick to use an old 3 or 4 speed Sturmey Archer type rear hub.

i did this one time with a kawasaki string trimmer motor. i had a drive wheel that was half inch and it rubbed against the front wheel of the bike. the kawa has a centrifical clutch so if the motor was off you could free wheel it and petal.

it worked pretty good. but the cops busted me one day.a pparently anything that uses fuel needs a liscence plate, turn signals, street legal dot tyres, rear view, helmet, etc etc.

i ended up selling t.

Considering how many motorized scooters, segways, and sub 50 cc mopeds there are that aren't held to this requirement, I think the officer may have misinterpreted the law.

Vehicle codes vary a lot by state. For instance, Florida requires annual registration of Mopeds.

in florida you cant ride ANYTHING on the street that uses fuel unless its liscenced. not gopeds, motor scooters, not anything.

electric bikes and golf cars are another matter. but if it uses fuel, its gotta have a liscnce plate.
