i was wondering which was the better oil filter and how they compare to eachother. i am currently using motorcraft and have heard they are good. just wanted some other opinions.

Which ever one is cheaper, if you own a Ford go with the motorcraft. They have different bypass' if I remember correctly. Ford has a Thread end bypass, which is better IMO.

This needs to be moved to the Oil Filter Section.

Both are great filters. I do like the bypass on the motorcraft. MC is made by purolator.

I like P1 and bosch

+1. I used Motorcraft on my PT Cruiser, Dodge Neon and Jeep all the time for this very reason. Great filters. Now that I have all GM and don't need a bypass in the filter, I use Purolators since Motorcraft doesn't make a cartridge filter for my application. Either will do you fine.

I've always questioned what the real beta ratio (ie, filter efficiency) is on the Motorcraft filters ... the info is almost non existent. All I've ever seen was 80% @ 20 microns for the Motorcraft.

But with Purolator, you know the Classic is 97.5% @ 20 microns, and the PureONE is 99.9% @ 20 microns.

True but even the AAP filters made by purolator were 96% @ 20 microns according to the packaging, so I'd think the motorcraft was at least that good.

Hard to say ... I've tried contacting Ford and the Motorcraft parts division of Ford and can not get any oil filter efficiency data from them ... ZERO. Their canned answer is "contact the nearest Ford dealer" ... yeah, like the dealer is going to know what the beta ratio is on the Motorcraft oil filters. I doubt they even know what beta ratio means.

But yeah, if you want to assume the Motorcraft filters made by Purolator use the same basic media as the Classic, then you could assume they are also around 97~98% efficient.

Nothing about efficiency ratings:

Why not just use the best...a Purolator PureOne.

The media is better and more efficent (99.9%) than the Puro Classic or the Motorcraft...and it only costs a few $$ more than either.

here is a link for there power stroke filter, has the efficiency rating for that, would bet a nickel most the motorcraft filters are the same as this

Depends who makes them for Motorcraft. Could be an entirely different spec for the diesel engines too. Without seeing exact specs for specific filters, it's anyone's guess on what their efficiency really is. At least they list some relatively hard numbers for the diesel oil filters.

I like them both the one thing im not crazy about is the motorcraft 820s it seems that they have very little threads that hold it onto the engine

I understand your concern, but I've not heard of them blowing off, either, at least not on a Ford modular motor and they have some very high oil pressures. The OP in the 4V in the Marauder can go over 100 lbs when cold.

The only Motorcraft I've that had the bypass in the bottom was for my wife's Lincoln 3.9. But I think it said made in England on it.

Not all Motorcraft oil filters have the base end bypass valve. Some Motorcraft oil filters made by Purolator have the dome end bypass valve.

I purchased the Fl820s Motorcraft racing filter and I can here the difference in valvetrain chatter while idling between that filter and the Purolator pure one. The pure one is much quieter. My truck is a Dodge Hemi 2009. Just curious to know why?
