According to Fram's website, the 3.0L Vulcan that was in my old Ford Ranger uses the same oil filter that my new Dakota uses (3.7L). (the PH3600)

I have a left-over Motorcraft FL-400S in the garage- there shouldn't be any issue with using it on my first oil change in the Dodge, will there?

No issues at all, it's the same thing. A PH3614 is the short version of the PH3600/FL400. The FL400 will be a fine filter, and has the bypass at the threaded end- a plus. PH16, and PH8 also have the same thread and gasket size. You may have room for a ST8 from Walmart. Same length, but fatter.

The FL400s is a great filter for the money. And, it fits a bunch of Jeeps, Dodges, Fords, Nissans, Toyotas......and others requiring a 3/4 threaded filter.
The FL1a is bigger and can also be used if it fits and doesn't leak.
