I don't see how a thinner fluid would protect that transfer case. I also don't see why you'd want a motor oil in a transfer case calling for a gear oil.

Stick with the MFG recommendations of any 90wt gear oil. Or, use the heavy shockproof.

Now, what is required by the transmission?

Well the tc and tranny call for the same fluid, that was why I was wondering if the 15w-50 would work better in the tc since 10w-30 seems to work well in the tranny. Mobil 1 15w-50 has a cSt@100C of 18.2 which seems thicker than a 75w-90 gear oil.

The mfg recommendations are based on the car being stock, where mine has been modified to have almost double the stock hp. I'm not a fan of redline shockproof, but I've been looking at schaeffer's gear oil and might give it a try. What Schaeffer lube would work the best absorbing shock and protecting the tc from high torque (lauching an 3800lb AWD car at 6000rpms)?

I'm currently running pennzoil synchromesh in the tranny, but after some research (pretty thin oil) I might switch to something else. The car sees 7000rpm shifts, and the synchros take a beating with the weight and power of the car. I drive the car in all weather, -20 to over 100 degrees. Any recommendations?

This is in regards to a twin-turbo AWD dodge stealth with about 500-550hp. Many people with these cars run mobil 1 10w-30 in the transmisson with very good results. The car specs "Hypoid Gear Oil, SAE 75W-90 or 75W-85W conforming to API classification GL-4" for both the transmission and transfer case.

Now the transfer case on these cars take alot of shock and abuse and some use relinde shock proof or a mix of redline MTL and MT-90. I was wondering since mobil 1 10w-30 works in the transmission, would mobil 1 15w-50 be a wise choice in the transfer case since it is thicker and may help soak up some of the shock to the tc (also easy to get)? Or is there a better gear oil for heavy duty use that would help protect the tc?
