I see these products all the time at Autozones, Meijer's etc...

Everytime I see these bottles I have this thing where I like flip the bottle upside down and ever so slowly watch the bubble rise up.

I laugh my *** off literally whenever I do this.

Having all that said, my Ranger is due for an oil change and just for ****s n giggles, I've been half tempted just to try one of these bottles and see what happens. Please don't rip on me about this, I just think it's funny? lol What do you guys think? yay or nay? op

I certainly wouldn't do it to a good engine during cold weather. This stuff has to be hard to pump on cold mornings. Good luck. Rickey.

Thanks guys, I probably won't even do it. It was just a humorous idea I'd thought I'd throw out there,,,,op

Oh come on now, back in the 50's and 60's millions of people added STP to their oil year around and engines did not die by the thousands. Go for it!

Actually some of this crap is responsible for more wear and more gummy rings and yes even more sludge. People THINK they are helping their engines....wnen in reality....

I have zero issues with VSOT.

Mola..are you including VSOT in that? (I imagine you are as you said above mentioned)

Blue_Goose,

Should have clarified and thank you.

I was referring to STP-type products, Motor Honey, Smoke-Be-Gone, and the similar products.

Products like VSOT and SX-UP contains added AW and friction reducers in synthetic base oils.

In the case of SX-UP, there are AW's and FM's not detected in regular VOA's.

The above mentioned products, including Walmart's Oil Additive, are simply high viscosity ehtylene-propylene copolymers (OCP's) with a very minute amount of anti-oxidant and anti-wear compounds. They should sell for about $0.35/bottle.

These are probably OK for smokers, not good for anything else.

When I was a teenager back in the late 80's, I had an '83 Monte Carlo. I bought it in '89 with 105k miles on it. It was a leaker & a smoker when I got it. In fact, I had to add oil so often that I NEVER changed the oil or the oil filter, just topped up when needed.

I used Motor Honey & similar products in that car for 80k miles. It still ran fairly well when I traded it with 185k miles on it.

I wish the internet, digital cameras, & BITOG would have been around in the 80's. I would have loved to see the inside of that oil filter.

Funny thing about that car; I had to have it worked on a few times over the 4 years that I drove it. Not once did a mechanic ever ask me when was the last time it had an oil change.

I wonder if VSOT would be good for my smokin' Oliver 1655 diesel tractor. She seems to have a little oil control problem--lots of pretty blue smoke. Too cold out for much of it now though, and I can't find any of it anywhere to boot.

Amazing what happens when lil' brother overheats her moving round bales. Twice. (Freeze Plug was loose and leaking and didn't notice)
