Mosin Nagant Prices

I think that is pretty much it. Most of these things have been bought up over the last few years. It was the same back in the 60's when new M1 Garands, Springfield 03's and M1 Carbines could be had for under $100 bucks.

Over the next several years, these were all bought up, and now a beater runs into 4 digits. I think I posted this once before, but I paid only $160 bucks for this new .303 Enfield. Complete with bayonet and correct scabbard.

There isn't a mark on it. It came mummy wrapped in the Cosmoline. It took me several hours to clean it all up. But it was beautiful when I finished. Now I wish I bought a dozen of them. That always seems to be the case with surplus guns.

Today they're all becoming high priced, slim pickings.

I don't think I've ever even handled an Enfield that wasn't 'well used'. That's pretty cool. It makes me a little sad my son won't ever get to push the cosmoline out of some weird old rifle..

I love WWII surplus rifles. 30 years ago a guy that retired and came back to work cold cases had an FFL and would just add $20 to whatever we ordered. I've shot an 8mm Mauser till there was no rifling left. I shot corrosive ammo through it, it was a cheap hog gun. Guns were plentiful and ammo was dirt cheap.
I have a Mosin with a simple pedigree that is as old as I am and I really enjoy it. But I simply cannot imagine it ever being a $900 gun. I've had numerous examples of surplus rifles (never collectibles, just shooters) and still miss my Swiss K31, which is a magnificent weapon. At one point I tried to collect a bolt action battle rifle from every major nation involved in WWII. One that always escaped me was the Arisaka. I found a few but I was looking for the Chrysanthemum on the receiver. (hard to find)

Great hobby that provided context and detail to that historical time period.

Yeah only surplus right now that is good quality is the Italian Carcano's that came back from Italy not ethopia. I got a really nice 1918 mfg 1891 carbine for under $200.

I think Mosin's are neat and I'm happy I have a couple, but anyone paying more for one than a surplus Mauser is nuts. You can get a good shooter like a 1908 Brazilian mauser in 7x57 for less than a Mosin these days and its actually a really nicely built firearm.

I paid under $150 for:

like new Mosin M 44 and hex receiver ex dragoon
Swiss K31
1908 Brazilian mauser
M48 Yugo Mauser
Swedish Mauser M1896 (this one may have been ($175)

But that was 15-20years ago except the 1908 that was within the last 10yrs on gunbroker.
A decent K-31 will run you over a grand, now. Easy.

I have one with a troop tag - perfect barrel, decent stock, all numbers matching. I thought I was stealing it for $600 a couple years ago…

I honestly didn't even know what they were when I got mine. Was the first I'd ever seen and they had a pile of them at this particular gun show (20 years ago). Mine is similar condition to yours only downside is beech stock. I knew enough to know that swiss straight pull was worth a Benjamin and I'd figure out the details later.. haha

Ammo was cheap back then too. I think that I bought a couple crates for $100 each if I recall correctly. It's 80 years old and corrosive as hell but they fire.

Bought 2 Mosins and still have them from Big 5 Sporting Goods 15 yrs ago. A carbine and a sniper model. Rarely get shot but won't part with them. Also have a Styer M95 in 8x56R with around 400 rds in my collection

Definitely wouldn’t be a primary weapon, but you can bet your tail if it was the only thing you had left, it will make a pile of carcasses. Where it is outclassed on speed it makes up for it with raw power and respectable accuracy. 👍🏻
Yeah, I mean look, it was a rifle built 2 centuries ago. Think of it that way.

I has the same ammo capacity as a typical 12ga, and reloads faster, well kind of, with the right stripper clips.

It would not be my choice out of the WW2 bolt guns.

I love bringing a Mosin to the range. Everybody comes running to see what make that ka-BOOM!

A few years back, I was at an indoor range. Had a Garand. One other shooter, a few lanes down from me starts shooting his AR.

"Pop" which was answered with "boom". Then, he goes "pop-pop-pop" in rapid succession and I go "boom-boom-boom" in equally rapid succession.

He puts down his rifle to peer around the lane dividers...

I think I paid around $350.00 for all of this. Excellent ammo! Properly stored for a century. The circle 10 Bulgarian stuff is about as good as it gets for 7.62 X 54 MM.

I remember a time when cabelas had racks upon racks of mosin nagants for sale. They were only $90 a piece. If you bought one, they’d bring out a bin of bayonets and try them all till one fitted.

In hindsight, I wish I looked at every single one for threaded scope mount holes. I also should have bought a few.

I think we are from the same era...I bought and stacked it high back in the 90s to early 2000's. Bought every surplus rifle I wanted...91/30s, M38s, M44s 98ks, SKSs (chinese, and Russian), MAS 36 ($90 from SOG!) and Mas 49/56....M1 carbines, M1 Garands, Enfields...I have only shot about a quarter of them. When I retire soon, I hope to try the rest of them out and shoot all that ammo... :)
