Mortar Alternative?

I have a few brick steps leading up to the front porch on my house. They are not tied into the brick on the house wall, so I assume there is a bit of different expansion rates.
Is there a product that would work well for this joint? Durable yet a bit flexible.

Yes there are some colored cement caulks that would do well. Definitely clean very well and makes sure all loose stuff is gone. Just see what your stores sell, like the Quickcrete stuff
 
What about a quart of pre-mixed thin-set? I know you said no mortar, but that stuff is easy enough to apply in small areas with something as simple as a plastic putty knife and your finger. No need for a trowel.
