so my wifes friends mom is a house cleaner and well economy being bad that's a luxury so she is hurting financially. she has a 01 merc grand marquis... has around 230,000 has been in a front end wreck nothing major but air bag did deploy ( sort of) about 16 months ago we put some bars head gasket sealer in the car. it was leaking externally.
it was the kind you had to run it with water only let it sit for a day with no antifreeze in contact with the product. well it is now leaking a little farther down on the same head.
my advice the first time pray it works and save up for a better car.... of course she didn't do that. so now she is stuck with the same problem again. she wants to put more stuff in. personally I wouldn't have used it the first time but whatever. so is there any harm in doing this magic potion dance again? I told her to keep it topped up and drive it and start saving like crazy but of course she didn't like that option. what's your opinions?

I would stop giving advice to someone who didnt listen to you the first time. Because when something bad happens, the blame will come back on you.

If she's really on a possible "mechanic in a bottle" budget, And We've all been there, whether we like it or not, I'd suggest K-Seal.
K-Seal
It's one of the Better HG sealer's on the market. You could also go for the ginger root/nut tabs with the K-Seal.
It's Available at Amazon and Most Autozone's. Most other Part's chain's should have it too.
But I'd Do a FULL hose rinse out of the Cooling system before you start, New coolant with this concoction.
Tread Carefully

Edit: JHZR2 +2

my concern was the stuff she put in was a permanent sealer so if you go sticking more magic fixit in couldn't It chemically react with what is in there and potentially be a bad thing

I think that if you put enough of that stuff in there it may end up filling all the water passages in the block. They you can run nitromethane fuel and use it for drag racing.

But somehow I think it is going to need a new head gasket.

bar's leak with pellets might fix the head gasket and break the heater core and radiator.

The pellets are like glue and clog up the radiator. when you get reduced flow you get poor cooling AND you get higher pressures in the radiator which leads to cracked tanks.

Here is the inside of my radiator clogged with pellets glue goo.

There is another product called "Blue Devil" and it's also for HG Leaks. Blue Devil is closer to $50 for the bottle but, may infact actually work.

A friend of mine used it with success in his Caddy prior to trade-in.

Of course, since he traded it in, he has no way of knowing if the sealer lasted very long.

True but, he went a couple of months with the car prior to trading. These products are supposed to be last resort additives since fixing the HG isn't an option with the OP's friends MOM.

Yes, Blue Devil can seal a leak temporarily. I would sometimes use it in cars where the price of doing the job right exceeded the value of the car, or if the engine had such bad bottom end wear that it should be rebuilt.

If one bottle didn't work, it isn't going to work, leave the radiator cap loose(though this will make it overheat easier), keep it topped off, save up for a mechanically sound beater.
