Millionaire Congressman Wins Lottery Again

Quote:

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, already a millionaire and heir to the Kimberly-Clark fortune, is on a lucky streak.

The Republican hit it big in 1997 with a $250,000 jackpot in the District of Columbia lottery . Then, last spring, he won $1,000 prize in the Wisconsin lottery , and he won another $1,000 in that lottery last week .

"I got lucky," Sensenbrenner said.

"I got lucky"...Gee, no kidding...

Yeah, he's probably one of those guys that blows $50 at a time on tickets. There's rarely a positive return on that investment.

Where I used to work, last year the company owner (already a multi millionaire) won the company superbowl football pool. All of it. It was worth several thousand dollars. He gladly took it and didn't kick anything back to us!

This must be the same reason that it's seeminly always old people that win the big lottery drawings. You gotta love it when a 90 year old wins $250 million. Well, their kids and grandkids gotta love it, anwyay.

How noble and genteel a man. A true class act.

I took part in a Superbowl pool. $5. I won all 4 quarters since there was no score after half time (or after whenever

). I won the $200. A lady said that I should have bought everyone pizza. I asked what she bought with her last winnings to share with others. She didn't reply (she'd won a few).

He didn't get rich by giving his money away.

What a whiney thread. Sheesh. What's with the "other people should give me their money" mentality??? Usually followed by "yeah, you already got too much".....

Yeah the boss could have shared, he should give you all raises...but wow. HAND OUTS for ALL!

I would have done the same...and expected anybody else that won it to do the same.

He didn't get rich by giving his money away.

There's some distractions that the owner shouldn't participate in. He hardly needed the money and he had the thrill of the winning. It would have been great PR to just refuse the winnings or, in some way, disperse it.

Instead he reinforced any and all notions that he's just a greedy bas=person.

Sure it's his right to be this way. He can do what he wants. Why he wants to be that way is interesting to me. I can't relate to the mentality ..and although I've never been a millionaire ..I have to assume that I'd never surrender my humanity and humility in the process if I ever had the opportunity.

Even wealthy people can be very SMALL.

Actually I agree with you Gary - but there should be absolutely NO expectation that he(or anyone) should just give stuff/money away because of some perceived inequality. To me (IMHO) this is NOT akin to true charity....in a situation where someone has made it big, it is in my heart and beliefs that this person should help the truly poor, not driven to give by any human or human institution - but by the gift of goodwill. If a person who has attained material wealth and has not attained goodwill, then they really haven't "made it".

Playing the lottery, statistically, he has exactly the same chance of winning as anybody else (and infinitely more chance of winning than those without a ticket)...I don't see what's fair or unfair about that.

What I do find unfair is that our state lotteries were privatised some years ago. The Govt sold the entire lottery industry for short term gain, now the "voluntary taxation" that lotteries used to be goes straight into the pockets of Packer and Murdoch.

Easy, donate it to a local charity, that would have been class.

Yes ...I believe that we're in agreement

I'm a charity, give it to me! If you saw my paycheck you would roll your eyes. My wife and I looked up the average household income in the Leavenworth/Lansing area, we looked at each other and said we are considered poor. Does not help when you have military officers running around town in $50,000 plus sports cars and suv's, now thats really rubbing it in.

Money really won't solve ANY problems. Most of these winners, after the euphoria wears off, aren't anymore happy than before winning as they seem to accrue a different set of problems. I play the lottery every week by stashing that fiver' away for myself. Living beneath your means is an " INSTANT WINNER ". I think it was in the book "1984" where they said the Guvmint would create lotterys to generate revenue, only they would show photos of dead people as the Guvmint COULD NOT afford to have any real winners!! Pretty astounding as it was written in 1939.

A NH congressman or senator won the second prize(typically $100k) of the Powerball a year or so ago. Some lucky folks in the white house. His prize was $750k.

I wish it had gone to those recent immigrants who always think they are going to win the lottery. Every place I work they always have some sort of pool like that and try to get me to get in.
