More Penn & QS on dexos approved list

Just noticed that both Pennzoil and Quaker State have added their synthetic blends to the dexos licensed brands list.

I am assuming this is the Pennzoil Gold and Quaker State Enhanced Durability products

No. I don't understand why Ultra hasn't been certified as dexos compliant yet either. If your two lower tier oils meet/exceed the spec, why not license the cream of the crop which undoubtedly exceed the spec, as well? I'm wondering what is going on with Pennzoil marketing? I'm beginning to wonder about the future of Ultra.

Ultra may be a great oil but I have never seen such a muddle headed marketing campaign for a new oil. Very high price, no perceived advantage (Keeps my piston skirts cleaner? Who cares?) and then it is suddenly pulled from shelves at all the Wal marts in my area. I use Mobil 1 and my engine valve train under the valve cover is crystal clean. Why would I pay $5-7 more for a product like Ultra?

I have no problem finding PU at Walmart in my area. Plus, it's only $1.50 more than M1 in the 5.1 qt jugs. Combine that with the $25 rebate and it's only $2.50 for the entire jug. Been running PU in my Honda and it's clean as a whistle and runs smooth as silk. I see no need to use anything else.

Ultra is still API SM and can't be dexos 1 certified. The question is when is Supos gonna make Ultra API SN.

Ultra is SM and the others are SN. Dexos 1 can only be certified by SN oils.

You are absolutely right smooth, Ultra is API SM and I think SOPUS is debating whether to license it as SN due to less than stellar sales. I do like Ultra...smooth as silk.

maybe not enough people buy ultra...It is a great oil and cleans really good but price is steep

I would assume this is probably more for bulk sales than over the counter.

Sopus made the marketing error when they priced Ultra more than the best selling synthetic.

I guess a full synthetic is not needed to meet Dexos1 requirements.

My local Super WalMart has all of them in most of the viscosities. Funny. It's one of the smaller Super WalMarts and is in a town of only 3000 people.
