More Honda heartburn.

or how about when the EPA found them guilty of removing the OBD-II sensor sensitivity settings in the Civic mid-90s! (96-97) They did this so the CEL would never come on and make their engines look flawless under the EPA's testing. They had to extended the emissions warranty to something like 10+ years and 150k miles. I got a free catalytic+manifold out of it back in the day! Even when my o2 sensor died, no CEL ever turned on! I had to test it manually with a multimeter, completely dead and no CEL. Yup EPA was correct to go after them.. I'm not one for bureaucracy but in this case, I had to agree!

Or.. let's go back further.. the "secret warranty" they had on the a/c compressors of the 1991 CRX Si (most likely the same compressor for all CRX and Civics of 88-91), so when it grenaded it made Honda look all warm and fuzzy towards their customers even though they knew the part was junk and was just a matter of time before it exploded and died! They could have issued a technical service bulletin or a recall but that would've ruined the reputation as their products are perfect. So they handled it out of "goodwill" but it was really a secret warranty to replace the entire a/c system after the compressor had shot metal debris throughout the system.

This has been going on for awhile.. yes for the most part the Honda's back then were reliable but let's not fool ourselves any longer that they were perfection. And yes I lived all this.. not second hand info..

My last 2018 Pilot was not my favorite. Some issues plus it seemed cheaply made.

Exactly why nanny systems like that shouldn't be wasted space in any vehicle.... some go on and on about how some of those things are better than human reaction, lmao, well not when it isn't guaranteed to work 100% when you need it to and can/will do more harm than good. So much for modern technology!

I’m happy with my 2015 accord, but I can tell that underhood fastener and other rustproofing is not the best, even compared to our 14 odyssey which has more miles and the same driving locations.

While not a mechanic. you folks know I do a lot of work at home not so much for the current fleet of cars I have, but a lot of different cars from a variety of manufactures.
I feel like most of them suck in some way or another. That is why I looked at other stuff before I picked up the Buick. Mostly picked it up because I know so much about them. Not sure what will happen when it comes time to replace the Malibu.

When my 15 accord was in for warranty work- honda gave me a new ? as a loaner, people who actually need all that crap to drive safely.......maybe shouldn't be driving at all. Highly distracting and irritating. adaptive cruise, lane changing, etc etc whatever.....

Don't forget the German cars.
Not to be overshadowed by the problematic American cars!
Then there's the Koreans with their engine problems
o_O
I tell ya, it's just a bad time to own a vehicle...regardless of the manufacturer!
It all is specific vehicles from specific makes. The problems always existed however internet opened our eyes up. If you are into blanket statements then what you say is true since 1910.

These new Japanese cars are hit or miss. I see the same thing with my Toyotas.
2017 RAV4 minimal to no rust
2018 Tacoma looks like it’s been sitting at the bottom of the ocean
Both driven on the same roads.

And it seems like Honda quality is hit or miss too. My 2017 Accord hybrid(J vin) Has been great other than the nav unit going bad. Good rust proofing and overall nice build quality. People hate to say it but there is a quality difference based on location of manufacture. Most OEMs are sourcing parts local to the plant. Mexico might put together a car nicely but everything that I’ve seen fail on my Texas built Tacoma is stamped mexico, and my loaner 2022 HRV had a nasty clunk from the exhaust hanger that was stamped mexico. I won’t talk about the Nissan I use to have…The only brands I’ve seen making good cars out of Mexico is VW/Audi and Hyundai. Honda Toyota Nissan really have QC problems at their mexico plants. And the Honda sales rep who sold me my accord can vouch that the HRV/Fits had tons of fit/finish problems compared to civics, HRVs, accords etc

And my experience is the opposite.
Yep- there’s always one

Make that two. Ours is a 2010. It‘s been as good mechanically as it looks. And for the last three years it’s no longer been garaged. 5K OCIs and it’s only down 1/8 quart, max. The only thing that’s actually gone wrong with it was the starter and the sound system - both replaced under new car warranty. Literally flawless otherwise.
