More BMW shenanigans - enter SaaS (Suspension-as-a-Service)

Even though I wouldn't buy it, I salute BMW for pioneering this tech. We live in a digital world now. I guarantee you their leadership, along with others, will make better, safer cars in the not-so-far future.

I still wanna see that crazy cool Neue Klasse...

Louis is spitting facts lately about some super anti-consumer behaviors from our beloved brands.

BMW is trying their pay wall model again, but this time with their active suspension. :ROFLMAO:
Let's see the reaction of consumers this time around. People didn't receive well their heated seats and other comfort features as a subscription.

Let's see if the "enthusiasts" are more or less gullible.

As usual with his videos, lots of cussing, so search for this on Youtube as I don't want a vacation by embedding his videos.

gullible
Withbthe outrage over the heated seat debacle I thought they'd have learned. My complaint is that Luxury vehicle owners want customization. That's part of the deal. For BMW to whine that only 85% want heated seats etc get over it. Suspension is a whole other thing though. Is this going to effect USA vehicles? It seems like usually it's something that gets implemented in European countries.

How are subscriptions high tech and how are they going to make cars safer? Safer for those that subscribe? Not sure I’m getting your point.

Naw. BMW will likely test this in some markets. The US isn't ready for something like this.

This. This is a crack head idea to suck money from some..........well (rich) suckers. Just because tech allows something or it can be done, does not mean it should be. MOST people we consider upper class, with real money, did not get there by being idiots. OTOH, hey, if BMW can sell this to them OK, but, I'm not there.

A nice new M2 was on my short list. Not that BMW would try it there, but this sours me. Obviously not a fan!

They will always sell regular cars with normal features if you can’t pay to play.

If you are actually wealthy cash buyer you’ll say no. The thing is majority of car buyers finance and this gets buried into their world of payments.

Going digital allows for OTA updates which opens the door to so many possibilities. Will there be mistakes, stupid stuff, etc? Sure, just ask Elon. But it is all part of development.

In 10 years the increasing rate of change, driven by electronics (and AI) will put us in a new world.
Just my 2 cents.

When bmw mentions active dampers I don't think there was an asterisk next to that. Second so far Mercedes backed down on the paywall garbage for the USA. Remember Texas has more cars than the ENTIRE UK and Ireland combined. Our market is huge, and screwing up business here can be a costly mistake.

No question BMW has changed. It has a very valuable brand name and the very nature of the company has evolved.

I see it day in and day out going to work. Non M cars, not only have M mirrors, but M looking exhaust (quad pipes), FROM THE FACTORY. This is a car company which only 20 years ago faked nothing. Cruise control had no on/off. Turn signals had no detents. Twin turbo inline 6’s had true dual exhaust. Nonsense stuff like rear fog lamps were disabled. Today it’s the opposite so why not do what others do as the co is today mainstream. They believe not only can we do and charge as we please, we can charge a lot. Because our cars have a roundel that the whole world recognizes

You salute BMW for putting technology behind a paywall?
There will be more and more of this, driven by tech. In manufacturing, a simpler BOM is desirable and engineers always work towards this.

Will some be silly? Sure. That's the price. BMW, IMO, is engaging in exploration.
Again, just my 2 cents.

There is a huge difference between having electronics and hosing the consumer behind a paywall. If consumers put their foot down this won't happen. John Deere is seeing fewer orders why? Because they require you to use them for everything. Don't be a pushover and say "well it's bound to happen. " This is what allows it to happen. Unreal.

You and Elon can keep the goofy otas or whatever. I don't want the car manufacturer that I buy from to have that kind of control. We don't need Tesla copycats.

In Silicon Valley, we have a term, "Fail fast". There are those who say, "That won't work", "You can't do that", "That's stupid", "We do it this way", etc. Many times they are right.

To be better, by definition, you have to be different.

After 12 BMWs since 1983 I turned to the Dark Side and picked up a Mercedes AMG. The current styling (or lack thereof) coupled with the tacked-on digital display which has most every function hidden in the touchscreen submenus was the last straw.
As for the subscription model, BMW should know better. Originally you could only get CarPlay bundled with the nav system and you also had to pony up an additional $300 and pay an annual subscription fee. You can imagine how well that went over.
There is NO WAY I am buying anything that doesn’t have physical basic functions.

That’s because you only look at this form a corporate stand point. Profits above else and milk as much and as fast as you can. So it sure does make sense. Marketing and selling cigarettes to kids also made sense not too long ago, right?
