thanks! interesting video. I've never used a infrared heat device for this, although I did buy one a while back for $25 or so. Wonder what a bi-directional OBD unit costs? AND, I especially wonder how many professional mechanics actually do all this? Excluding people in Porsche, BMW, Mercedes shops.

It definitely is a very thorough video.

Side note - watching this reminded me of an email exchange I had once with Tenneco, Monroe's parent.

I emailed them because I was considering buying a specific brake pad Monroe offers. I asked where this pad was made for my application. This is the lame response I received:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting Tenneco Automotive.

Tenneco is a global business and has plants located all over the world.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

I've emailed lots of companies asking about the country of origin of specific products. Only twice have they refused to tell me or claimed they didn't know. Tenneco was one. The other was a rep at Kelly-Springfield who claimed she had no way to tell me where a specific model of tire was made.

In both cases I chose not to buy that company's products.

Most shops have some form of advanced scan tool, such as a Snap-On Verus, Solus Pro, OTC Genesys, etc. Price is usually in the $4k-$7k range plus annual updates.

Not really overkill it's nice to see a video from a company that makes an effort to "attention to detail" as they have here. If only the techs at most shops were all so good. Few are.

In Europe they use brake dyno's. Its a much better way to test the actual braking performance.
Every shop doing brakes in Germany has one as does the inspection stations. Checking the temp is better than a look see.
