So you've won the Powerball. You have $88 million cash after taxes. You have 4 children; one with cerebral palsy. You finally have the opportunity to stop living between a rock and a hard place, and change your life.

So what do you do? Why you live in a trailer with your drug trafficking gang member boyfriend, and post multi-million dollar bonds to keep him at home with your children.....and his gun....and more drugs....

A Shallotte man, who was arrested and charged with violating the terms of his pre-trial release while out on bond in July, has posted a $6 million bond.

Lamar Andre McDow, 31, was released from the Brunswick County jail on the secured bond Wednesday afternoon, according to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Emily Flax. McDow was arrested July 23 in Shallotte and charged with violating the terms of his pre-trial release while out on a $3 million secured bond on several drug trafficking charges.

Detectives also arrested 26-year-old Fontella Marie Holmes–a Shallotte woman who won a $188 million Powerball prize in February–and cited her for possession of marijuana, Flax said.

Holmes and her boyfriend, McDow, were charged after detectives executed a search warrant at a Boverie Street home at about 10 p.m., July 23, according to Flax. Detectives reportedly found marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia and a .45-caliber pistol in the home.

McDow—who is a known gang member in Brunswick County—was arrested in November 2014 on multiple drug charges, including trafficking heroin and conspire to traffic heroin, according to Flax. He faced an additional charge of trafficking heroin from a July 2014 incident in which detectives seized more than 8,000 bags of heroin.

The sheriff’s office was alerted that McDow violated his pre-trial release when he was not home at a 7:30 p.m. curfew time, Flax said. McDow has been monitored by an electronic device since being released from the Brunswick County jail on Feb. 27.

McDow was also charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, he has been convicted of three felonies, including possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession with intent to sell a schedule II controlled substance.

McDow will continue to be monitored by GPS, Flax said.

At what point does someone finally wake up, look around, and realize what is going on? Then, when do they decide to stop putting up with this?

I am stuck on stupid because stupid is stuck on me...

Can't fix people with money. No matter how much becomes available. Very sad in a way. I bet she is broke within ten years.

I read this article couple hours before, I felt sorry for her for not using her brain to have better life for herself and her kids. I don't think she will ever realize that she needs to get way from criminals and starts new life with better persons.

Just goes to show that most people really can't change much.

The only good news here, is that with his record, and the charges against him, he'll like be away until the other half of this century.

The really sad thing is her intelligent defense of her boyfriend....

I will definitely pray for Y’all because it’s much need…they talked about Jesus so I’m not surprised Y’all are talking about me but be blessed though.”

Don't worry, she'll find another loser.

Ann Sullivan (Helen Keller's teacher) is credited with saying "Language is to the mind what light is to the eye".

Now read that imbecile's quote again and think what's going on in her head. Very little.

Stupid, stunted, dull, entirely ignorant. Nice to know it has the same number of votes I have come election day.

And when its kids go off to school I can see them pulling the classes performance down. Kira

In order to 'use her brain' she would have to have a brain......

With people like this having children at record rates while intelligent people can't afford more than 1 or 2 kids....is it any wonder America's future looks so dim....

When the money runs out you cry poormouth, get on welfare, and have some sort of Dateline TV show about your misfortune.

Few thoughts:

1. I heard once (from someone who'd know) that getting rich amplifies all your personality traits. If you're really a good person, you'll end up doing a lot more good. If you're not, you'll do a lot worse. Seems accurate.

2. This case is a perfect example of why lotteries exist in the first place. The vast majority of people who play them either have no idea how badly they're wasting their money, or are too impulsive to care. So, on the extremely rare occasion when someone does win, they're probably the type to blow everything in a hurry, which sends the post-tax proceeds right back into the economy (and, in this case, governments). It's basically a tax on shortsightedness.

3. Obviously there's no excuse for these people's (or anyone's) behavior. At the same time, before we look down our noses at them, I think we'd all do well to remember that a windfall worth tens of millions of dollars is enough to make your whole world come unglued. You just have no idea how you'll act when that kind of thing happens, until it happens.

Wow I roll my eyes everytime I hear a story like this.
A few years ago there was a story on the news here titled "The lottery was the worst thing that happened in my life".
I went to read the story and long story short, right after this mid aged couple hit the lotto they headed straight to vegas, blew it all away, came back broke and split up, now she said I don't even have money for cigarettes.
The local media here made it sound like this was a very unfortunate thing that happened to this people.

My hope is she takes part of money to use in a rainy day fund.

Other then that I think lotto winners can do whatever they please from becoming richer or turning flat broke. Personal choice and I have no judgements on what folks do with free money they never earned that essentially fell out of the sky.

Very well said - 100% True

Money tends to ruin folks without self control.

Good friends of ours won almost a million dollars after taxes. In 3 years they lost their home to foreclosure, got divorced, and were in trouble with the IRS.

I'd rather work for it, it makes the attainment so much more sweet....

Sorry but I cannot agree with #3. The biggest issue facing most lottery winners is all the "friends" and "family" that suddenly show up with hands out. For me, if I won, I would purchase the recently closed gardening store near me and make it great again. Hopefully it would not bankrupt me though...lol

I have a problem with spending money. I think if I won the lottery it would get worse.

I make myself save for everything - no impulse buys. Then, when the time comes to spend it on what I have saved for, I can't make myself buy it.

If I had won a few $mil ... I would have a hard time talking myself into spending any of it on myself. Would have no problem investing it - but even after that, I wouldn't be able to spend it on myself.
