How do the two filters compare to each other? Currently running EAO but im going with 7500 mile change intervals with Syntec this summer.

With 7500 mile OCI either will be good. M1 is probably less expensive than EaO. I like other filters that are less expensive yet as good filtration; eg. PureONE Puralators.

But the EaO has true synthetic media (Donaldson media?) and probably has better filtration. The really difference would be it's holding capacity where it could be run much longer.

Can't the EaO also filter significantly finer particles? I agree that most of the benefit is only realized with a longer OCI, but I'd imagine that ideally one would want the best filtration possible in any case.

I am interested in this as well. Assume the OCI is 15k miles. Can the M1 EP filter handle that? I don't have any doubts about the EaO (in a good way).

EaO is the best filter around. Use it for two OCIs (15K). Uninstall at 7.5K - then release its liquid content - then reinstall for another 7.5K.

You take the filter off, pour the oil out and then put it back on? Why?

To get the old oil out of it.

The original post referred to a 7500 mile oil change interval.

Why would one want to leave around a half quart of old oil in there?

Agreed, however, when I took the time to read carefully...

He stated exactly what he did, and obviously feels confident in doing that.

Even though I'm waaayyyy too OCD

to do the same I also have NO doubts that the EaOs can handle that scenario with capacity to spare!!

Mobil 1 filters are guaranteed to handle 15k mile oil changes.

Talk about OCD. I was proud that I convinced myself to run the larger than stock EaO for two 4,500mi OCIs. I figured I could reduce some startup wear by not taking the filter off.

BUT.... after draining the oil I put four quarts of new Amsoil ACD in, ran it for a minute, drained, and put another five quarts of new ACD in to make sure I didn't have any old oil left over from the filter.

It did, however, eliminate the slight delay in oil pressure I usually see after a filter change. Pressure came up as quick as always.

Why are all of you that have this affliction way too far away for me to give you a collection container?

I'm about to do an oil change for my brother in law and thought of saving the 4 new quarts of Amsoil diluted with 1/2 quart of 4,500mile oil 5 minutes too late. It's too bad I didn't put it to use since I also pay for his oil. Who knows, maybe I'll swap out my 50mile oil for new ACD and put it in his car. I may be on to something here...

My understanding of Terry's opinion is that M1 is OK, but for the price you're better off with an EaO. The M1 results I've been seeing in my UOAs haven't been significantly better than traditional paper filters (OEM). I've been using up my stock of M1 filters and switching to EaO where I can.

The amount of oil won't make any real difference .Some engines hold lots of oil.

I hope someone will answer my question.

Do Mobil 1 EP filters compare at all Amsoil EAO filters, in their ability to absorb particulate filtrates, without clogging and loosing their flow characteristics?

Mobil 1 filters are a microglass/cellulose blend while the Amsoil EaO is a full microglass. A full microglass can provide significantly superior oil filtration AND oil flow compared with a blend filter media.

I have not seen a true side by side study, but I have never seen anything this impressive from any other oil filter: Fully Independent EaO test
