Mobil Super 5000

I was reading the Autozone ad, and I saw that I can get VWB plus an orange can for $22.99, but there's a $7.00 Autozone gift card rebate, which would bring it down to $15.99, if my math is correct. Not bad, I thought. But then I realized if I go to my local Walmart, I can pick up a jug of Mobil Super 5000 and a death can for $16.74, and I don't have to wait for a rebate.

I'm starting to think that for my van, which has just had a valve job and doesn't leak, Mobil 5000 may be my go to oil, unless I can get something FAR.

The current Valvoline rebate at Autozone also includes an American flag, so if you need one, it's a pretty good deal. Just mentioning that for the sake of completeness.

I've used VWB in a couple different vehicles and in my experience it doesn't run as quietly as oils like PYB or QSGB, and it doesn't seem to prevent burn off as well as GTX in an oil burning engine. VWB has treated many people well for years, but in my experience there is better out there. I have no experience with Mobil Super but I would definitely use it over VWB. It's cheaper and many members here love it and have excellent used oil analysis results with it and also say their engine runs quieter with it than some other conventionals.

If you can get the same pricing without the hassle of a rebate, that sounds like a win to me.

I'm currently using Mobil Super 5000 for the first time, and as far as i can tell it's working just as good as any other oil. I wouldn't fault you for going with Mobil Super 5000 just for the convenience of it all.

How about Pennzoil conventional plus a tough guard at Walmart? VWB has zero moly!

I thought I saw Mobil Super on sale at wallys other day for $12 something, could be just in this area though.
If your gonna spend $16-$17+ on an OC I'd consider SuperTech SYN for $17 with a tough guard filter and stretch it out to 7-9k miles. jmo

While were at it just spring for the Synpower @ $22 on Rollback!

Skip the overpriced (even when a Rollback) Synpower and go for the Mobil Super.

If you're going to pay $22 for a synthetic, QSUD is the only thing you need to put in that wobbly-wheeled Wallyworld cart.

They are both fine oils and well suited for use in many vehicles that can use dino based oil. Either one will be fine

Mobil Super 5000 is very smooth oil, it's my favorite dino juice.

But it would be a shame to use the Orange Can Of Cardboard with it.

Use this, use that, etc etc.

They will all do the job. If I was gonna pick ONE however I'd either go with PYB or Valvoline Max Life. Both are great oils.

$ 17,ms5k and a MC filter
$18.50, QSGB and a MC filter
They're my go to oil change for my '97 F150.Both run smooth and quiet. I might lean the green bottle based on how well it did in the 5w20 PQIA test. No wrong answer though really.

Interesting comments all. Mobil 5000 is about 5 cents more than Super Tech conventional right now. VWB is a well - proven oil that I certainly would use, but my point is that I can get a solid, major brand oil at an everyday price that is about as good as going through a rebate hassle for another oil.

PYB is another obviously good choice, but doesn't compete with the above deals on price.

And I do not fear the orange can.
