2001 Pontiac Sunfire. Purchased car in July 2009 with 82,000 miles. Ran a flush with lube control and have ran a maintenance dose now and then. This oci was mainly a winter run during a very cold Michigan winter. No oil consumption and I did not run any oil additives. Motor is 2.2 ohv. Not a powerhouse by any means but is reliable and runs every day. I will be posting another uoa with Mobil Super 5000 shortly for comparison. I am at 4000 miles now and will change at 5k. Analysis by Blackstone.

Wear looks decent. Tin is higher than lead which is something I don't understand. Viscosity sheared a bit but overall I am happy. Will be neat to see how the SN version compares with Titanium as the new additive. Car is driven about 15 miles each way to work so it did not see many short duty cycles. Thinking about having some fun and going to Pennzoil conventional next round to see how it will compare with Mobil Super 5000.

My little Sisters car was a similar 2000 Sunfire SE 2.2 OHV with the 4Spd Auto (Special Ordered as most were 3 Spd). It got Mobil Drive Clean for the first 30,000 miles (free dealer changes) every 5,000 miles followed by German Castrol every 8,000-16,000 miles (Preferred OCI was 12,000 miles but whenever I could get her home to change it) for the next 150,000 miles.

It was sold with 187,000 miles and still ran like new and still used the same amount of oil. About 0.5 Qt every 9000 miles with German Castrol.

Other than normal maintenance items the car needed an alternator and 2 drivers side power window motors ($30 each) in 8.5 years. If you use the power window 30 times a day (like most teenagers) you can figure on replacing that motor every 3 years or so.

This is definitely the SM version, as you have probably seen the additive pack has changed significantly in the SN version. It will be very interesting to see a used oil analysis after you run the SN Mobil 1 Super 5000.

I think the Quaker State Conventional has just as good or better of an additive pack over Pennzoil conventional. You may want to try that (saves some money). I think they want too much for the Pennzoil products. Quaker State is almost identical if not better when looking at the spec sheet between Platinum and Quaker State Ultimate Durability anyways.

Thanks for the reply gene and chubbs. This is the 4 speed auto. I had to replace the fuel pump last year. Not cheap, but other than that nothing else has failed. I change the transaxle fluid every year with Dex-Merc Valvoline or Supertech. I have two grease fitings I hit every 5k with Valvoline synpower grease now. Chubbs right on the Quaker State Conventional. It is the best value compared to Mobil Super. I have used the the green bottle in the past with good results.

I think Quaker State Conventional is one of the best buys in oil right now. We use it for 6 month changes in our 2007 Accent 1.6L.

Good results for the 2.2 OHV.

It is a rock-solid little engine, got 100k out of one before moving on recently...

These things run forever.

I sure hope she ticks for a good while yet. Daughter will be in 8th grade and is talking about college. Yikes!
