Hi

After this fill of Mobil 1 is out, I plan on using Mobil 7500 (3qts 10w30, 2 qts 5w30) from November until late december early jan, then switch to Mobil 1 5w30 for the coldest of the winter, Jan-Feb.

Will the Mobil 7500 shear down to a 20w ?

I dont usually let an oci go much more than 6k mi, so if Mobil 7500 will give as good an UOA as Mobil 1 or GC, why not? Its quite a bit cheaper.

BTW, its in a 3800 SII V6 L36

I did a search here: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search;search_forum=3

Put "7500" and search the titles. It seems to shear a bit..but not as most conventionals. Where it did shear it staid nominally in grade.

We have seen (and I personally have had) many oils shear dowjn into the 20 wt and produce excellent results. So unless your engine is not happy with a lower wt. 30 wt. I would opt to go with the 5w30 anmd get perhaps less wear at startup. Especially in Main I would stay away from any 10W for sure. Just not necessary.

Hi

I have traditonally gone with Mobil 1 until summer of '04 when I got the GC bug.

But I wonder if GC was a tad too thick last winter as I developed a noise in the original engine's head. Definitely valve train related. I swapped engines and have been on GC before I developed a LIM leak.

Since the repair, Havoline 10w30 and now Mobil 1 10w30 with 15oz of VSOT and the recommended dose(s) of LC20.

I plan on running this M7500 as a stop gap until time to go 5w30 Mobil 1 for the cold months.

Perhaps Mobil 7500 5w/10w-30 would make a good year round oil for 6-7000 oci?
