Mobil 1 vs Kendall oil?

Kendall Syn Blend is part of the Conoco Phillips family which includes Trop Artic and Motorcraft. They introduced these oils when the new SM/GF4 standards were introduced for their multigrades such as 5w30,5w20 etc. They are not a full synthetic like Mobil 1 but will provide excellent service for all but the harshest conditions, or for exceptionally long OCI's. For the very harsh conditions, or for vehicles that specify a full synthetic (such as Corvette), M1 would be the appropriate choice. Welcome to the forum btw.

This gets into the whole sticky debate of defining superior. Mobil 1 is a synthetic motor oil. Kendall is not. Kendall will protect most vehicles just as well up to the vehicle manufactureres recomended OCI.
Mobil 1 will out perform the Kendall at extreme low temperatures, and in the event of extrmely high oil temperatures experienced by sustained maximum power output. Mobil 1 may provide protection beyond the recomended OCI but this needs to be confirmed on an individual basis through testing.

If for example you stick with 5k mile OCI's then there is no reason not to use The Kendall.

Running mMobil 1 is a luxury that most don't need. This is similar to my housing situation. It is just me and my Wife, yet we have a 4 bedroom home. Having the larger home is nice if we need the capacity though we rarely use more space than wee need. I think of Synthetic oils as additional capacity and capability that your vehicle may not need, then again only you know if you need it.
