Mobil 1 synthetic ATF

Is Mobil 1 synthetic ATF truly a full synthetic fluid? Does the Group III versus Group IV base oil issue come into play when one is talking about ATF?

Has anyone here tried using Mobil 1 ATF in a Honda AT? What was the impact, if any, on shift quality if you did? Mobil 1 ATF does not list compatibility with Honda Z1 ATF on the label, but perhaps that is because they make the Honda 5W-20 engine oil and may have signed a no-compete agreement when it comes to ATF.

Wrong fluid for Z-1. Try AMSoil ATF.

Mobil 1 ATF worked in our '02 accord ONLY with lubeguard black. W/o lubeguard it harshly bangs into gear. It is also thicker - trans was quieter BUT I lost ~1 mpg.

I used it in a '92 Civic and a '99 Civic. Great results. The '92 sold with 240,000 miles and shifted like new. The '99 left the road avoiding a deer and was totaled. I swear by it.

Maybe not the same car but my trans shifted better with Amsoil ATF versus Mobil 1 ATF or Redline D4, but before I put Amsoil ATF I had cleaned the transmission out by using Auto-Rx.

I use the M1 transmission fluid in my 87 Buick GN and in a Jeep Cherokee (in the t-case too) with good results. I'm gonna stick with the Dexron 6 for my 06 Denali pickup, however.

I used it in my dad's Lexus ES300 (Took Dexron III), and it worked extremely well.

I used it in a Chevy S-10, and it also worked extremely well.

I once used it in a Honda that needed ATF Z-1, and the results were not good.

Use it with confidence wherever Dexron III, Mercon, or Mercon V is needed.

It also works good in Chrysler ATF+3 and ATF+4 applications. But as others have said if your car calls for the Honda ATF Z-1 and you want to use a synthetic, use the Amsoil.

why didnt you just hit the deer? its usually cheaper and safer to do so

I use it in any DexIII application but never in a Honda. Works well in my GMC transfer case and boat transmissions.

Not necessarily, very easy to be killed by hitting a deer in a small car, especially one like a civic. Commonly the deer ends up coming through the windshield. Up there the deer can come a little larger too.
