Looks like the 5 qt jugs went up about 3 bucks at Indianapolis area Wal-Mart. Wonder how much that was at the wholesale level?

Here's what happened to me the other day. Time to change in my truck and my mother's Caddy. Go to Wally's, no M1 jugs in 5w30 (me) or 10w30 (mom). Go to other Wal-Mart, $22.42 a jug.

Quarts are only $4.00 though.

Buy one for me, two for mom, then go to K-Mart to buy two 4 quart jugs for $18 and change. Back to Wal-Mart #1 yesterday for something else and now they have a whole endcap full of M1 SM for $19.

Some days you just can't buy oil.

At which Wal-Mart were you? I know last week the one on east Washington St. still had them for $19-something, and they were SM rated. BTW, howdy, neighbor!

Hello to Pat in Speedway and nascarnation from a neighbor to the south. I was just in the Walmart in Clarksville filling a prescription so I strolled back to automotive section(where else?). Mobil1 is up to $22.42 for 5qt jug. Also noticed the Motorcraft up a dime to $1.52.

Oil prices are going up at every retailor, I've noticed. The various High Mileage oils are now approaching $2.60/quart. Regular dinos are well over $2/quart.

This was at Brownsburg (west suburb of Indy for you non-locals)
Went from $19 something to $22 something.

I wonder if Mobil has had to reformulate Mobil-1 to meet GF-4/SM. You would hope not since it is supposed to already be so superior to dino oils.

they could have had to take stuff out, and thus, need to reformulate it.

I think this will be a trend. I would expect that Havoline and Mobil Drive Clean will also go up in price, but slowly to avoid sticker shock! Maybe it's a marketing thing, but GF-4's will be more expensive. Have to be in the long run.

We should all expect price increases. Cheap but great ZDDP is being phased out so chemists are working to replace with new additives. So NO oil is immune to GF-4. M1 I believe added more Boron to their oils to help offset ZDDP. Like anything else, constant upgrades based on new additives that trickle out will be blended in as time goes on. Look at how much Mobil 1 has changed in the last 3 years alone! It's a constant, evolving process.

Not here. Target is more expensive, and they barely have any selection of oil.

It's not like the old days -- seems to me that WalMart is the only one of these stores that wants to compete for the automotive market.

They are competitive with AutoZone and Advance Auto for selection, and beat them on price.

Instead of thinking ZDDP and the price of additive packages, give a thought to IRAQ and the change in the price of crude oil in the past year or two. Maybe some of those costs are finally hitting motor oil.

5 qts jugs of Mobil 1 are $16.60 at the Wally of my neck of the woods...

Too bad I cannot find 0w-20 5 qts jugs just yet.

I noticed it is still 19.80 here in my area.
I switched back to Super Tech oil.
I can change 3 vehicles w/ super tech and buy 3 filters For the price of 1 quart of Mobil One.

When I got oil at WalMart about 8 months ago, M1 was $20.02, regular Castrol was $7.92. Three months later, M1 price unchanged, CAstrol was $8.70+. A couple weeks ago, M1 still same price, Castrol almost $10!!!

Walmart has changed over the years IMO, they us to sell a quality product at a fair price, now it seems they sell a lesser quality product overall at an inflated price. They have become very clever at getting money out of people's pockets and giving them less in return. I'll buy my oil at AZ and pay more before I give Wally World a dime of my money. Just had to vent a little...
