Mobil 1 questions

I'm wondering about the differences between Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Is there any benefit to using EP if drain intervals will not exceed about 5K miles?
Is there any difference in base stocks? Mobil says that EP contains 50% more SuperSyn - what does that mean?
It also contains 36% more anti-wear additives and 37% more cleaning agents than the normal Mobil 1.
Based on that, I'd think that reduced wear might be achieved in a hard working engine, even at only 5K drain intervals.
But has there been any evidence to back that up?

I don't think you would notice any reduced wear at all in a 5k OCI with either

I don't think you would notice a difference either, however around here they are only about 30-50 cents a qt higher for the EP.

Most of your technical questions can be answered if you did a search in the VOA section for the oils you have in mind. This way you can see the actual stuff that has changed.

I have been using Mobil 1 products for over 700k miles with 15k intervals. My opinion is you'd be wasting your money with 5k intervals with Mobil 1. However it will work very well. I have a Honda Civic and the oem recommendation for OCI is 10k with conventional oil such as Honda 5w20 or ExxonMobil Superflo 5w20. After the 10k on the factory fill,when I switched to Mobil 1 0w20, the new OCI will be a min of 15k to a more normal 20k.

Just curious!
Are you the last owner of your vehicles? If you are, how long in miles does your 10K dino OCI vehicles last -- how long in miles does your 15K synthetic OCI vehhicles last? Do you ever Auto-Rx them, use stuff like Lube Control & VSOT -- or change internal engine parts?

When you say last owner? I have sold 2 with 250,000 miles. The 10k dino oci's is currently at 18k per 12 mo if I understand what you are asking. The 15k ocis can be from half year to 3 years. The 25k oci is on a 28k per 12 mo cycle. No auto Rx, lube control or VSOT. I have been reading about them. No, engine parts are just fine.

The VOA's don't answer any of my questions.
I have no interest in extending my OCI much beyond 5K. To me it's not a waste of money. It might cost me $50 per year more by changing at 5K rather than 15K. That's a small price to pay, even if only for piece of mind. I'm only interested in the lowest possible wear.
Even with a 5K OCI, there will be differences between various oils, even if slight, especially if the engine is a high performance/highly stressed engine.

I concur. For those of us who do lots of city driving comprising stop-and-go, short trips, etc., short OCIs are essential, particularly in sludge-prone engines, such as my VW/Audi 1.8T.
