By my best estimates, I've been using nothing but Mobil 1 for over 30 years. But I'm beginning to get a little confused if not skeptical. At Wal-Mart, they sell three types in the five quart jugs at the same price. I'll label one as "regular", "Truck and SUV" and "High Mileage". Is there really any difference in the formulations? Thank You!

High mileage oils have seal swell agents - swell elastomeric seals, organic phosphates and aromatic hydrocarbons. These chemical reaction with elastomer help to cause slight swells in engine seals.

M1's "shelf flankers" protect the core product from directly touching competition, like Pennzoil Platinum.

IOW the M1 brand gets more space and more eye candy.

Kinda like Honey Nut Cheerios protecting regular Cheerios. Same deal.

Or toothpaste. The more flavors you have the more shelf space you get. There are subtle differences between the various M1 oils, but really they're more or less interchangeable.
