I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the I-6 4.0L. I'm currently running Mobil 1 10w30 and a Mobil 1 (M1-204) filter. How does the Wix oil filter (#51085) compare to the Mobil 1 filter? I can get the Wix filter for $3.72 ea from www.filter1.com. The Mobil 1's cost $10.99 from Autozone. I'm not opposed to spending the extra $ for the Mobil 1 but if the Wix filter is just as good why spend the $$.

I always use Wix or Napa Golds which are the same thing on my TJ and my LS1 Camaro. Really well made filters for the price. IMO it's not worth the price $10 for the Mobil 1 filters when you can get quality Wix's of $4.

I would run the Mobil 1 filter since you are using synthetic. Change the filter at 5k and do OCI at 10k . The oil is only as good as the filters used in the engine.

You can change the Wix 3 times during your synthetic OCI if you don't feel like it will do as good of a job as the Mobil 1. I guess you can tell which one I would buy.

Yep, Wix.

If you don't want to spend the same money ..but want 90% of the filtration (mabye the same

) get a PureOne. 65%-70% of the cost.

Wix are great too and probably a much better buy for the buck.

How far are you taking these filters, anyway? Any should be good for 6 months regardless of mileage. That is, unless you're hitting the "dusty trail".

I use an Mobil 1 oil filter on my VW, but wouldn't hesitate to use a Wix, if my trusted Mobil 1 wasn't available.

Whichever you choose, you'll be treating your engine to a very high quality oil filter.

I have had no complaints with Mobil 1 filters on my PSD, and they are 2 quart filters. I do use Wix on my JD lawn mower 2 Mazdas. Both excellent for my uses and I only change them once a year.

I think WIX filters are top notch, I can't justify paying twice as much for a Mobil 1 filter when I think WIX filters are good for extended drains.

I would never argue with your assessment. I to run WIX for one year in my lawn equipment. But on my Ford PSD, it takes a FL1995 and the WIX equivalent is $13.95 and the Mobil 1 equivalent is $9.95 at Auto Zone. So in my case, Mobil 1 wins on that filter. Also I do have two PSD's and both use the FL-1995.

In most cases (majority) I believe WIX filters will be cheaper than Mobil 1 filters of course there will be an odd one here and there. Wix filters are a great buy and the construction is top notch in comparison to similar priced filters. I would not hesitate to use this well made American product for an extended drain interval.
