What the difference between Mobil 1 full synthetic and Mobil 1 Extended Performance Synthetic? Any added benefits to the EP?

In reading Mobil site, it states to use the manufacturer's OCI if driving under "severe conditions". How can they then claim to be an extended OCI oil under harsh conditions?

During winter, my vehicle gets driven very short trips and extremely cold conditions. I see the benefit of a synthetic oil, but also hope to get extended OCI's. Are severe conditions and extended OCI's do-able?

I think extended drains are based on optimum driving conditions as well as an engine that is not worn. You bring up a very good point because when you get down to it - most people do drive under what our owner's manuals consider "severe" driving and thus a shorter interval is required.

I email Mobil a similiar question about two weeks ago. They told me the EP line is not tested against GM4718M or HTO-06. I was wondering if they met these specs and they said they are not even tested against them. I'm not knocking Mobil either because that is what I use. Have been for over a decade. I just think that is strange. I know some members say EP meets these specs but Mobil told me it doesn't and if it did it would seem logical to print it on the bottle. Maybe the tech who responded was incorrect? Who knows.
