Changed oil today for a friend and did the one drop oil test and the results are very good. The oil was Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance with 15,500 miles on the oil. I know this doesn't show wear metals, but the drop was rated good on the scale I have. After the oil was drained the pan looked very clean with no grit or carbon deposits.
2003 Ford Winstar
114,500 miles

One drop test.

I just use the back of white business cards. After the drop finally absorbs, I record the date and oil mileage. I usually do the test every 4K on the same card for a record.

Ill bet a coffee filter would work great for this, I might try this tomarrow. Although I cant see how the results would tell you about the quality of the oil, you want a oil to turn black or its not cleaning. Get a good quality oil and it will turn black quicker than a cheap oil with less additives. Follow the results of this test and you would leave the cheap oil in forever and get the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

Ahh yea i don't see how this would accomplish anything accurate,i thought it was on a test strip with some sort of chemical reaction to show results.
