Why is Mobil 1, and Not Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Recommended for Newer Corvettes?
I use Mobil 1 5w30, the recommended oil for my car. Why is it NOT recommended that I can use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 in my vehicle? I drive a 2006 Corvette Z06. Surely the same oil with a greater amount of cleaning agents would be superior.

Answer:
While your car is under the manufacturer’s warranty, follow its maintenance instructions, which includes using Mobil 1 5w30. It is approved against the GM 4718M specification at the OEM recommended oil change interval. Either Mobil 1 5w30 or Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 can be used in your vehicle once it is out of warranty and you will continue to experience outstanding performance with either product.

This is such B/S. Isn't the Corvette drain interval 15,000 miles?

Yes and no. In theory the maximum interval is 15,000 miles, as that's the highest level the OLM is set to, but you'd only see 15k under perfectly ideal conditions. The way most Corvette owners drive they'll see the OLM hit zero before 10,000 miles.

FWIW, the OLM in my 98 Corvette is calibrated to a maximum of 10,000 miles. I typically hit zero just before it hits 7000 miles though. It was in 2001 that they reprogrammed the OLM for a longer interval.
