Mobil 1 Extended Life 10W-60

It's not sold in the United States. If anything, I think they offer it as an alternative to the expensive Castrol TWS 10w60 that BMW requires for their M cars.

In the USA they sell Mobil 1, 15w-50 and Castrol Edge with Syntec 5w-50.....I guess these are as close to "made for older or Classic vehicles" that I've seen on the shelves of retail stores.

Are you planning to use it in your Saab? The dealer continues to feed my dad's old '03 V40 T4 (2.0T) with Castrol 10w-60 and that engine is still alive, so I'm guessing this M1 10w-60 wouldn't be any worse. Personally, I think it's way too thick, but what do I know...

Yes, I'm thinking on to find some full synthetic thicker oil especially for high mileage cars. Availability here is not huge - most of the 'oldtimers' sticks to dyno oils (most common is Castrol GTX High Mileage 15W40 for reasonable price). This Mobil stuff is quite expensive (USD 63 per 4 quarts): that's why I'm thinking also to change. The third reason: highway running (400 miles) last weekend with TQE 9000 5W40: the oil now is definitely dark-brown/black (not brown or golden) and burnt smell. It has 2,500 miles in it.

Thx for the recommendation! Mobil 1 5W-50 was in use: much better tolerance against higher rpms/revs, but still not 100% satisfactory. Both Mobil 1 products have the same price level.

I was just going to ask what happend to Mobil 1 PeakLife 5W-50? Why wasent it 100% satisfactory? I think 10W-60 will be to thick, especialy for the winter smile Recomendation from here 5W-50 Mobil1 smile

Any oil consumption from this oil? What car do you have? Driving habit? No more question, please! :-)

Cooool! smile My turbo getting to be leaking - that's why I thought to try a cheap fix by 10W60. (Once a tried autobahn by almost 200 km/h - it was funny to overtake a Polizei car without any penalty!!!)

That oil definetly looks like it is plenty stout - SA of 1.4, TBN of 11.8, HT/HS of 5.7..... Wonder what an engine that specs 5W-20 would think of it???? :P

Shure the turbo is leaking? Maby it´s just the seal from the "oil drain line"? Did the problem just ocur with the 5W-40? I like the 5W-50 alot smile I also think after 340+tkm the Turbo did its job well wink Alot of turbos dont even last half of that smile If you want give the 10/60 a try, as long as its not castrol smile Liqui-Moly and Shell have those grades too if you cant find it from Mobil1 smile btw: forgot tho mention that my turbo is running about 20.30psi (1.4bar) out of the original K03 smile

No, unfortunatelly, this turbo has close to 100,000 km just - the third one in this car. Garret GT17 small turbo is not long lasting one - Mitsu TD04 much better! I made a test: 5W40 + STP Smoke treatment = mix viscosity is close to 10W60; much quieter engine and turbo - no disadvantage detected...

Yes, it takes EUR 47 + EUR 4 postal fee per 4 liters. It's rather new product at Hungary

If Caterham tries it in the winter, I'll run 0w-20 in my F-150 with the 300 in the summer. wink

Why is the Castrol not recommended in that weight? Redline makes a 10/60 as well, if that available to you. Nice to hear that KO3 is still strong, mine has been running 16 psi since 40k, has 143k (mi) now and still shows no signs of trouble.

Final outcome: no 10W60 applied, because STP gas additive sucking via vacuum line + changed gaskets around in the air pipe line (turbo, throttle body) + M1 5W50 improved the oil consumption: just 1 L per 5000 km.
