I came across Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 oil on AV Lube's site, and was wondering if this oil can be used in regular diesel engines? Or is it only for passenger-car engines? Thanks for any info.
I was considering using it in a tractor of mine.

It is API CF rated and looks to be a very robust 5w30. Why not do a 100-hour run in the tractor, get an analysis done, and tell us how it did?

That's what I was considering doing. I just wanted to be sure that it wouldn't damage the engine. The tractor is a Kubota 21hp diesel lawn tractor, that I've been running Delvac-1 in. It gets about 100 hours of use per year just mowing grass.

API CF is a very old spec and very easy for almost every oil to pass. So ignore that.

However, the ACEA, MB, BMW, and VW specs suggest that this is an excellent oil for light-duty diesel engines.

A tractor needs an oil that can handle higher levels of soot. I'm not sure the Mobil 1 ESP products are designed for that.

I'd stick with the more robust Delvac 1 or now Delvac 1 ESP (also available at the avlube.com site you referenced)

Nope, I'm a fan of companies with integrity and truth in their claims; there are a few left to join Mobil. I've had good luck with Mobil over the years and don't buy into the popular conspiracy theory that OEM endorsements are bought vs earned with overall performance.

Hey, there are carmakers out there who produce engines for which no oil spec that they require is sufficiently good. Anything is possible and anyone is suspect. It's all one giant conspiracy. *wink wink*
