Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 (SP) VOA

looking more in to it, looks like the X4 have Porsche A40 and C40 approvals, and the X3 have Porsche C40, (if we look only at Porsche approvals)
The X4 PDS was updated recently to add A40. Somewhat odd because this contradicts the product positioning and advice of everyone else previously regarding A3/B4 (A40 base sec) and C3 (C40 base spec) interoperability. It makes sense from a practical perspective, since I am guessing one could make a C40 oil that would pass A40 tests, discounting the spec minimums.

It meets C30/VW504, and it dropped Dexos 2, as it's being discontinued in 2025. In terms of anti-wear requirements, VW504/C30 is about as good as it gets. It's high quality oil, very "stout", don't hesitate to use it.
I think MB 229.5 is about as good as it gets for wear prevention.

"1) Since the oil has to pass more demanding fuel economy tests, here in any case, molybdenum was replaced by an organic friction modifier (OFM), which is not visible in the analysis.
2) Fortunately, we now know what Infineum uses in MB 229.71, most likely they used it by analogy with Infineum C9440 glycerol mono-oleate organic ester friction modifier (guess).
3) There are no esters, yes - but esters are bad for the quick release of alkaline properties, which this mobile has always done - this was its main disadvantage. They were one of the last to abandon esters...
4) There is clearly a bit of PAO, most likely even mPAO, and no thickener, as there is very little PAO in MSDS, up to 5% to 3%, and it won't improve the performance much. Meanwhile, NOACK has 8.6%, and a suspiciously high CCS = 6350, and no less suspicious for adding PAO, the pour point is -42C. Vanguy that there is no longer a polymer thickener here, you need to send this sample to Shear Stability and check it. Now the analysis costs 5000 rubles, you can chip in and check.
5) it contains a lot of succinimides, dispersants, amine and phenolic antioxidants."

I have to be honest, other than BMW LL04 applications I’d use ESP X3/X4 0W-40 instead of this every time.
