I have been searching in vain for the Mobil 1 equivalent of the VW #068 115 561B oil filter.

VW #068 115 561B is the "larger" 1.8T filter that VW/Audi is now recommending on all 1.8T engines. It is actually not new; It's a filter that had been used on their older diesel engines until someone realized it could help prevent the oil sludge problems on the Passat 1.8T engine.

I have a 2000 VW GTI 1.8T. I love my Mobil 1 oil filters. Can anyone help me find what I'm looking for?

Perhaps you could see if they have cross-reference to the 1333 Napa Gold filter that I use on my 1.8T engine. It is quite literally, huge.

FWIW, several folks over on the vwvortex 1.8T forum are using the Napa Gold 1333 filter on their 1.8T engines, which is much larger than both the stock and the "larger" VW filter.

I called Champion Labs (manufacturer of M1 filters) & asked them to cross-reference the Napa Gold 1333 with an equivalent Mobil 1 filter.

The number they gave me was #M1-301. I currently use the M1-205, but I may give this big boy filter a try on my next oil change. I may change the oil earlier than necessary, because I can't wait to try the GC "green elixir".

How does this differ from the [Mann] Purolator L40316, which is also frequently recommended for the 1.8T? I got my oil capacity up to 4.4 qts (top of hash on dipstick) or 4.5 qts (still below top bend on dipstick) using the VW 068-115-561B, but it would be nice to push it closer to a full 5 qts., if possible.

I have read elsewhere that the 1333 filter raises the longitudinal 1.8T applications' oil capacity to 4.4 quarts from 3.7 and the transverse engines capacity goes up to 5.3 quarts. That's about what mine took when I filled it up with a fresh load of GC...
