Mobil 1 Advanced Clean formulation change

I'm running it long term in one of my cars, but not for the cleaning. The PDS had some really compelling figures on it before the mystery base oil swap and I just picked up several from walmart on the cheap.

I found jugs of the new formula, i verified it with a change in the 4 digit revision number on the back of the jugs. It is still dexos 1 gen 3 on the label
How can you tell based off the numbers?
Also is the older formulation supposed to be better than the newer one?
Dexos gen3 was never dropped, it was a mistake in documents.
Formulation changed mid May as per SDS, but we dont know if they started using new formula before documents changed. I dont think rules are very strict on timing
Mobil has a date code on every bottle and at the end of it it usually says RN**** and in this case it was RN7165 and now the latest jugs on my walmart shelf are RN7223 IIRC i just did a quick peek waiting on a prescription to be filled. The revision number is unique to each product line and a change signals a formulation change. Ive got no idea what the number itself stands for or if its just a formulation number or what. Like EP is all the same RN, regular is to, EP HM, HM etc. only ESP has unique RNs for each viscosity so they truly are different formulas and not just different viscosities with the same formula. Interestingly enough is ESP x2 was 6288 for atleast 6 years and last year changed to 6353 and now the latest jugs are back to 6288, unsure what that signifies.
What's the date code on the new jugs?
I think it was 10126E which i understand to be plant 101 year 2026 month of may
Yep, that's too close to a 20 grade (defined to be <9.3 cSt KV100 per SAE J300) without any fuel dilution and shearing.

Most Mobil 1 5W-20 oils are not Dexos1Gen3 certified as is with Vanilla 5W-20 and also EP 5W-20. Now EP 0W-20 is also not Dexos and I know it was like 6 months ago.View attachment 339099

Reformulations are here. I wonder how likely it is that they go back when this is all over.
Alrite so, I was finally able to nail down what they are reformulating with. Its not group II+ it is group III. Its XOMs new group III ALTUM. I traced the cas# that provided in the SDS for ALTUM and it lines up with whats listed in advanced clean, truck and SUV, AFE, and now FS 0w-40 has also been reformulated, keeping the PAO but replacing GTL with ALTUM group III
And how does the ALTUM compare to GTL? Is the much celebrated M1 0W-40 FS being significantly cheapened?
+1. I would love to learn more about ALTUM. Maybe it´ll be good news and it will have some real advantages.
Given the primary statement of the product is this, I am skeptical it's as good as GTL or that it has any advantages.
That would depend on the level of saturates, the viscosity index and the sulfur level. There are equivalent Group III base stocks but it's just easier to get there with GTL.
