Mobil 1 Advanced Clean formulation change

I talked to Mobil about this in regard to using the Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 and they said this oil IS FOR EURO applications but would work, though they recommended for best results the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy in my Subaru are you a per say a formulator/chemist or have stock in promoting Mobil 1 ESP products?? do you know more than the engineers at Mobil in recommending a euro oil? please enlighten me if you are.
You expect for XOM to give you an answer that goes contrary to the advice of their legal department ? Good luck!

Bro, quit while you’re behind.
Just to note ,I have worked around as part of my job with Lubricants for a long time (+27 years) and have had class room training. study seminars etc though mostly in industrial type healthcare settings as the type of ,greases, diesel engine oils (large generators) compressor oils ,turban oils , hydraulic oils, sterile lubricants, food grade oils , , polymer friction reduction lubes, vacuum systems ETC, ETC. for a large healthcare hospital (multi state regional ), as a Senior Engineer , even though automotive lubrication is always a bit of opinion of others, and plus have learned to follow Manufactures recommendations pertaining to their specs of lubes ,I have dealt with various lubricant manufactures, and technical people, including sales reps. , on a variety of some very expensive equipment, maybe YOU should quit while you are behind, though even that I am retired still looking for further education of this (Automotive) subject, not experimental options. Always remember Misapplication can be the downside of a lubricant /system failure of the components involved.

Subaru’s start up rattle is due to the filter not the oil. Some filters ADBV’s leak. I own and or maintain 4 Subaru’s currently on Mobil 1 ESP and PGI filters with no start up rattle.
Good point to consider and note.

I assure you that you did not talk to an engineer. You spoke with a minimum wage customer service rep who was putting your car into the oil recommendation engine online. They have to follow the manual recommendation for warranty purposes.

How would one buy stock in a particular product? 🤣

I'm really curious. You have a lot of posts here, and you've been here for years. Why are you calling and talking to a teenager at the customer support line at Mobil for oil advice still?? How is this the first time you're learning about using Euro oil in non-Euro applications?

I don't think it was a teenager, seemed knowledgeable, plus we talked for quite sometime, and I do not need to be challenged by the likes of you, and I am not a crowd follower on a specific brand or type of oil, and yes I have been here for a bit of time trying to learn a reasonable complex issue of automotive oil.

It is by far largest GTL supplier in the world and as far as I know, only source for Infineum, which means Shell/XOM.
Internet says unit 1 is ok but 2 is off for a year. Not sure how all that works over there. the LNG portion is down for 3 years which isn't good.

Was just wondering. 3.5 years and 1700 posts, and ending up on Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy in a Subaru is not a great ROI.

You really showed us by switching from probably the best off the shelf oil available to Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy.

Why do you have a issue with this? its not your given situation.

@facility1 - did you put the 0W-20 or 5W-30 in this time? What filter was on before the Purolator? Would the very slightly higher viscosity 5W affect some of the startup noise vs the ESP you had at cold startup? Just for trial, do you still have that old filter? If you put it back on and see what happens with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Maybe just that particular filter not even brand/model. A new one of the same may not have the issues but something to be aware of. Some of the Purolators on the unused C&P's concern me for using in my vehicles. Review some of those for your particular model.

I would need to defer to the Subaru owners like @GW. for the filter recommendations with ADBV issues. Way back I had a Corolla and was using some basic Fram orange cans. The filter mounted sideways on front of motor. I had a lot of start up noise for years. Might have been BITOG or Toyota Nation where someone covered the ADBV issue on the Fram's. Next change I put a factory Toyota filter on and all start up noise was gone, same oils used. I stuck with OEM after that as it was almost same price.

We all want the same thing of what we feel protects best. Start up noises are concerning so some trial and learning may lead to options especially if oil supply issues or just great sales. I like Valvoline Restore and Protect, I like Pennzoil Platinum and some Mobil 1 oils. I haven'y tried the ESP yet but based on those that have it's on my alternate list. Many of my cars will get Castrol Edge soon because of the sales. I can't recall when I last used Castrol but my Honda's/Kia/Jeep will be identifying as Euro vehicles in the very near future and I have 0 concerns.

thought of this also, left old filter on after removing oil, filling with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30,,drove a few days ,noise on startup was gone with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, then put on new filter & topped off slightly to full mark on dip-stick,, same brand and model (Purolator One,PL14617) specs for this engine, as by pass valve setting, verified by Purolator in relevance of Subaru specs, the ESP did make more startup noise and engine felt sluggish until warm ed up, then was ok, the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 was much more responsive, and NO more clattering, the outside temps about the same to note. the slightly thicker running viscosity of the ESP may affect the VVT on this engine is what I think, as in regard to the Subaru 2.0 is spec to use 0w-16 which I am not a fan of the .0w20 will be used in winter time, as previously I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. Mobil 1 ESP did not work well, at least in this case, the euro oils are a higher viscosity but within the perhaps outdated J-300 chart which may need a bit of updating,,,,,,,,yes there are differences in API and Euro viscosity's ???. 0w-20 oils maybe more forgiving with this engine, note the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 is of a lower vis. (thinner) compared to the higher vis ESP even though is claims 0w-30.

Wow. That’s a lot going on there.
