Hello, I'm using the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 and would like to know how miles can I get out of the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 before it need to be changed? I'm running it in my late model Vw beetle 1.8T...Thanks

Only way to really see how far it would be good till is to draw a sample and send it in for a used oil analysis (UOA) after a given period of mileage or hours.

The manual say 10,000 miles, I change the oil 5,000 to 6,000 miles.

1) Use correct VW502.00 oil. (see list on Audi's website)
2) Use the larger oil filter to increase capacity (068 115 561B or equivalent)
3) Regular oil changes, 5000 miles max

Mostly longitudinal engines due to smaller sump. Any good synthetic oil will cut it as long as HTHS is min. 3.5. Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck in that engine will work.

Yes.....that post is from 2008....so VW502 is now superseded with WV 504/507 anyway
Your "request" with HTHS min 3.5 is in place.....and covers "just everything".in 10w40....5w40....5w30.....from ACEA A3/B4 derivates ( VW 502....BMW LL-01 .....MB 229.3....229.5)
To C3 derivates (VW 504/507.....BMW LL-04.....MB 229.31....229.51....229.52)....

Even Acea Ex will work OK in 00 era gasser!

I had that engine in Passat as well as my roommate.
SHe was neglecting so much that car that one day when I was checking oil in her car, dipstick did not have anything on. I was using SHell Rotella T6 in her car as it was using bit of an oil and T6 was good choice.
SHe sold car with 270k miles.

The Americanized Passat did get a 1.8 TSI motor for a while which replaced the 2.5L motor, before getting replaced by a detuned 2.0TSI budack cycle motor.

I think the sludge problem was caused by using conventional oil and mostly affected engines mounted longitudinally -- like the Passat but not the Jetta GLI, GTI, or New Beetle.

This Scot's dipstick is kilt-crazy. Notice the bottom half of this Scot isn't shown...

For the thread... change more frequently at the mentioned 5K mile OCI.
