Mobil 1 5w30 Oil Consumption

I think it's a characteristic of each engine. Seems like low revving OHV engines have the least consumption where as high revving OHC engines have more consumption with 30 grades in general with Mobil 1 5w30 taking extra brunt because it's a synthetic (better flow) and a thinner than other 30 weights.

Geez....I don't want to beat this topic to death, but after searching these boards ...I'm still in search for the right oil....and I'm hoping you guys can throw a few more idea's my way before I go out and buy a couple types of oil and test them out.

- My car manual recommends a 5W30 oil
- 5w30 conventional has less consumption, but less protection

- Mobil 1 5W30 has more protection but consumption doubles

-XD3 0W30 is an option, but will probably burn away like Mobil 1

-Synthetic 5W40 looks like the fix for my oil consumption, but I'm worried about protection in a hi revving engine like mine (8000rpm-redline - 2Lw/200hp)

Bottom line:

I want the best protection that is affordable and does not require frequent top ups.

Any and all suggestions are welcome

PS: I will have an oil analysis done on my 5W30 m1 w/ Mobil 1 filter posted next month.

To state the obvious, you could always use a conventional oil you like, and just change it more often, or try a different synthetic 5-30.
