Mobil 1 5w30 OCI

I've finally convinced my wife to quit taking her 08 Scion XB to the stealership for oil changes. It has 55k miles, only ever seen toyota oil and filter every 5k miles.

Picked up a jug of Mobil 1 5w30 and a pure one filter for it. Will it be safe to run it till 7.5k miles to send in an oil analysis? Her driving is mostly highway (hence 55k miles in 3 years)

It's the same 2.4L inline 4 Toyota uses in the camry.

I'm pretty sure it'll be ok since the dealership had her on 5k intervals with their oil.

What is the recommended oil change interval? what is the drivetrain warranty? If warranty requirement aren't of concern the M1 should do the 7,500 miles with out breaking a sweat. Most likley with the driving conditions 10,000 mile oil changes are possible and would really make the advantages of syn oil pay off in time and money saved with as long as possible engine life.

Not a problem. Since you are close to end of warranty, I would get a used oil analysis with TBN and extend the OCI accordingly. I ran 7-10K intervals with synthetic oil in my !echo! and it is still running strong.

The owner's manual specifies 5k oil changes, and that's what we've been doing at the stealership. Of course I have no idea what kind of oil "Toyota" oil is. Probably generic dino.

That's why I was hoping it would be ok to 7.5k till i can get a sample and find out for sure.

The warranty ran out @ 36k miles. We have an extended warranty, but they'd have to prove I ran 7.5k oci instead of 5k

On the warranty it's your choice, but with many engines Mobil 1 5w30 will go 10K with no problem. I see it all the time.

The powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles whichever comes first.

Ah ok, well she'll have 60K before the 7.5k OCI is done. Sitting at 55k now.

I run Pennzoil Platinum in my Altima, it's a well regarded oil on here, but I couldn't get it in the 5quart jug here in the 5w20 I needed for her XB so went with Mobil 1

Let us know how it goes with the "four-slice" toaster-I'm running Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 in my wife's "two-slice" toaster AKA '05 xB for a 7500 run, I'm also going to send off a used oil analysis to see how it goes.

Why do't you ask the dealership offers a synthetic option????

My old Toyota dealership offered Mobil 1 synthetic as an option to standard dino.

The Toyota dealership is an hour away from us. The only reason we were going there is the wife purchased the pre-paid oil changes when she bought the car.

I did inquire about it at one time, and it was like $50 for the synthetic change. I'd rather do it at home my self for 1/2 that price.

I do my own changes and I dont follow Toyota's oci on my yaris. I have the exteneded warranty that is fully covered until 2013. Im not going to waste good synthetic oil at only 5k. Especially when Ive got several jugs of Ultra waiting on my shelf. They dont have a way of tracking when your oil was changed so why bother changing out good oil at 5k? I just drained out Royal Purple after 7.5k and I feel bad for pulling it out early! Do youself a favor and use Mobil 1 with confidence and drag it out a few extra thousand. Just ignore the warranty. Its not like they would know.

I also know that toyota's 0w-20 synthetic change is a 10k oci and still 5k on dino. Thats what I base my oci on since I dont use dino anymore.

Since your an hour away and already pre-paid for the OCI's then perhaps the dealership would just charge you the difference. Either case even if you stay using dino the drive to the dealership would keep moisture away from the heat generated.
