Mobil 1 5W30 - milky color?

Hi guys,

I recently changed the oil in my wife's 04 Subaru Impreza wagon and found this milky white stuff in my oil jug. I had some oil left over from one of the 4.4L jugs from the previous oil change as the Subaru takes only 4L. The jug was stored in my garage and the temps are now consistently lower than 0 degrees centigrade.

I only noticed the milkly white stuff when pouring the oil into my oil filter to lube up the o-ring. Does anyone know what this is and is it bad for the car and oil filter?

I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments.

Looks like a bit of moisture or water. Maybe condensation. Did all the oil look milky when you poured it? If not, my guess is that you just had a bit of condensation. Water being heavy than oil would go to the bottom. That's my theory.

Probably water. Bad for oil and additives, worse for the engine. You can very simply do a crackle test, but it is 99% probable. Don't put it in the engine

Oh definitely don't put it in the engine if it all looks like that.

Yeah looks like condensation. As long as the rest of the oil looked good you'll be fine. It should just evaporate (quickly) and escape through the pcv

For $38 bucks a jug they should take better care. I emptied some 0w-20 bottles that had been bought in the humid US summer, and stored outside in -5 C, and there was no water inside.

Maybe you can get a coupon for free oil if you send those photos and ones of the lot numbers from the jug to Imperial Oil.

Thanks guys!! I knew someone here would have the answer.

The entire jug wasn't like that. This was the last remaining dregs of clean oil that I had leftover from the previous oil change. I would guess that only about 20-50ml of oil was like that. The remaining 3.950L of oil was clear and translucent.
