Just received the first oil analysis on my car.

I purchased the car in 2005 with 101,000 miles on the odometer. I did the recommended Auto/RX treatment for cars with over 100,000 miles, then switched to Mobil 1 at about 114,000 miles.

Here are the results of the analysis.

Great report. You could easily double this to 10k miles or more. Car must have been taken care of.

I hope I get that kind of Milelage out of my 2002 Lincoln Continental. What other maintence or items did you have to replace on the car? That is a 4.6- engine right? Oil anny. looks great for 141,000 miles.

It is a 4.6 liter V-8. It's a Dual Ovehead cam and it's rear wheel drive. I believe that the Continental is Single Overhead Cam and front wheel drive.

It is a fantastic car.

It was a local trade-in when I got it. The previous owners took great care of it. All the "required" maintenance and anything that was even close to a problem got taken care of immediately.

Since I switched to Mobil 1, I've done regular oil changes according to the oil life meter built into the car. I've flushed the power steering fluid. It's due for new anti-freeze and transmission fluid shortly. I've changed the plugs, wires and fuel filter and added a K&N panel filter. Basic stuff. I haven't had any mechanical issues to speak of.

Nice report, your silicon numbers are a bit high though. When did your oil life monitor reach 0% ? BTW, the continental is also DOHC slightly detuned though.

The oil life monitor was on 1% when I did the oil change.

What causes a high silicon number?

Air filter or intake tract... I would start looking first at the throttle body gasket, make sure there are no leaks of any kind from the intake tract and the filter is in securely. BTW, which oil filter did you use?

Thanks! That's easy enough to fix. I've got a fresh Motorcraft filter sitting on my workbench. I'll get it installed over the weekend.

I changed the filter out this weekend.

When I first got the car, I put a K&N panel filter in it. I thought it was the "right" thing to do. I replaced it with a Motorcraft filter this weekend. The K&N was filthy.

I had originally installed the K&N because I thought it was the "right" thing to do. After researching things further, I decided to ditch the K&N when it was due for a cleaning and go back to a conventional air filter.

I'm going to stick with a conventional filter, and change it at each oil change from now on.

That's exactly what I did with my car I have now. I originally slapped a K&N on it right when I got it and ran it for about 500 miles until I learned of the potential lack of filtering/increased silicon then went back to using a Wix, which showed silicon nice and low and I noticed no difference in fuel economy/power between the two
