Analysis:
We can see you are inching up your oil use
intervals and the remarkable thing is, your
wear is showing little effect from the changes.
Comparing the wear in this oil to the metals in
the universal average column, you can see how
well you are doing at 57,869 miles. The
viscosity was a little high for a 5w/30, but not
so high as to hurt anything. There is a little
concern with the higher sodium, which sometimes
shows traces of anti-freeze getting into the oil
sump. You will want to monitor this, just in
case. The TBN was 3.4, showing plenty of active
additive.
My comments:
Changed the air filter and PCV valve halfway
through this interval. Overall, I'm happy with
this report and I plan to go to 9,000 miles on
the next one. This is the second analysis in a
row that shows elevated sodium. I would be
worried, but wouldn't there be a corresponding
increase in potassium if I had a head gasket leak
or something? I'm not worried yet. I'm
surprised the wear was so good, since I'm really
hard on the car and I drive it maybe 70% city/30%
highway, and those highway miles are short ones,
less than 10 miles. My foot is made on concrete.Any comments are welcome.
