Is there a reason not to use Mobil 1 10w40 HM in a newer engine (under 10k miles). Phosphorous and zinc (ZDDP) looks the same as M1 0w40. Is the base or the additive package something to be concerned about?

The reason for asking: though my request was for M1 0w40 on my last oil change, via some mis-communication, my mechanic dropped in 10w40 HM.

I would not hesitate to leave it in there for a "normal" OCI; if you car requires long life approvals, MB 229, BMW LL etc; i would not leave it in for that duration.

edit: ah, i see your car. No issues IMO.

Thanks.

Note: Oil change internal = approx 6 months and 1k miles.... though I realize at 1K miles that's way overkill it allows me to sleep well.

Yep... how did you know. But the car is only out on weekends and maybe some holidays (it really hates traffic).

Just want to be sure the additives in 10w-40 HM don't affect the engine seals in anyway, even for one (1) OCI.

Thanks for the help. Great website and forum.

For your specific service interval, I would leave it in there. Cool car!

I admit to being puzzled why a HM oil is being used with this oci and low mileage. That said it's a good oil but why swell perfectly good seals.

My apologies for not reading thoroughly! One OCI won't cause a problem.

Sorry.. another question:

Are the "seal conditioners" in the M1 10w40 HM additive package a actual 'conditioner' or is its role to swell the seals?

Or both?

Thanks again....

If I had an expensive car like a Viper,I`d just head over to WM,grab a jug of M1 0W40,and redo the oil change.
