Mobil 1 10w-30/15w-50 mix, 6.3k miles, ‘96 Lexus LX450 ( Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ-80 ) 4.5L 1FZ-FE

Went with a thinner mix for the winter (mild Georgia winter) , had 2 quarts of 15w-50 left over so put it in filled the rest (6 quarts) with 10w-30, top off oil was 10w-30. Should be close enough to the 4/1 ratio most use

No fuel or oil additives, no maintenance done to the engine in this OCI.

Using Toyota 90915-20004 Oil filter same as before.

Previous 3.9k sample was 15w-50 in the fall,

First sample, 5.2K Mobil Delvac 1, with high Tin and Lead

 -

Fortunately Tin stayed low, lead went up since the last OCI but is about the same per mile, still lower per mile than the first sample, but I wish it was lower.

Silicon is trending down, only idea I have for that is the PO had a K&N air filter installed, was replaced with an OEM paper upon discovery about 20K ago.

I was expecting more of a difference with the different weights. Guess this motor is not that sensitive to viscosity or I got the viscosity right for the weather. Not sure witch.

Put in M1 0w-40 at this OCI, hope to run it until early summer then start the Auto-Rx cycle, maybe 2 and be back in Syn. before winter. after If I am still in Ga think I am going to try M1 10w-40 EP, or 15-w50 EP if I can mke it home to FL.

Your thoughts? Am I on the right track?

Wish I knew what to tell you. Everything looks great except the lead.

My '97 basically doesn't throw any lead. I wonder if the PO's use of the K&N and the possible resulting high Si levels for a period of time have created an irreversible (or should I say slow to correct?) higher than normal wear pattern in the bottom-end bearings?

I took a look at the SuperTech report on your LX, I think I know what I am using for the ARx cycles.

are you sure you did not get a VOA and UOA confused?

I spoke with the analyst that ran the test. He said they would re-run the test and the only numbers that changed were:

CU went from 2 to 1
NA went from 3 to 2
MO went from 55 to 59
Nitr went from 2.2 to 2.4
Oxid went from 2.8 to 2.6
TBN went from 7.4 to 7.5

All other numbers stayed the same.

Normal variation. I did not send in a virgin oil sample, so there couldn't be confusion.

Tim

ps - getting ready to post a sample from the Sienna; 10W-40 Supertech. I have had this motor on steady 2k drains because of the tendency of the motor to chew oil. Numbers look like the Cruiser...
