I have been using Mobil 1 0W40 in my Porsche 996 Turbo for years, since it is the factory fill. These things consume oil like it is no one's business, so I usually keep buy in 20l pales which gives me a change for the Porsche as well as my BMW 335 per year as well as enough for top ups.

I always buy direct from the Aussie distributor. In the past, the product supplied has always been made in France. The last one I received is made in egypt. Should I be concerned?

Interesting considering it isn't on the Porsche approval list

Good luck getting Joe Gibbs in Australia....

I wouldn't worry about the M1.

It might be true however Mobil 1 0W-40 isn't going to harm anything.

Jake Raby of Raby Engine Development, LN Engineering and JGR teamed up together to develop the very best oil for Porsche engines air-cooled and water.

According to Jake he never wanted it released to the public....

Here is his commentary about it on rennlist last January: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/736199-joe-gibbs-dt40.html

Hi,
I have a little knowledge of this subject. The best brains on Porsche engines live in Zuffenhausen and the surrounds of Stuttgart

They approve lubricants based on a wide variety of circumstances and possibilities - and on the knowledge of in-field operation of their products based on Warranty and other considerations

Their Approved List is credible - and any Organisation with a suitable product can seek approval

As to the best - well we all know the answer to that here on BITOG

I would think that the definition of best should include "available in the owner's country of residence"....but that doesn't seem to factor into some of the recommendations....

Not to mention it will probably be half the price of a boutique and you have actual experience with the product.

Doug, do you guys get Mobil 1 0w-40 in anything except 1 L bottles? In the States, they have the 5 quart jugs, but we're still stuck with 1 L bottles up here, even at the distributor.

You can get anything in 20l (about 22 quarts) pales from the Mobil distributor in Aus. Some of them they keep in 60l and 205l too.

I wonder how the political turmoil in Egypt will play into this. Maybe you'll end up with another country of production the next time around.

Do you have Shell Helix?
