Hello all,

I was thinking of adding MMO to Shell's Rotella oils. I wouldn't mind using it in our older equipment to do some cleaning, and from the reading I have been doing, it seems to do well in this regard. Shell is saying that with their Energized Protection oils, the oil physically and chemically adapts to the environment in your engine. What I am wondering is that can MMO be safely added to the oil without effecting the way it works?

Would there be any other benefits to adding MMO to the oil besides cleaning? The MMO's website make it sound as if your vehicle won't be running at its optimum without it, but I am wondering if it could be added to the oil without upsetting the way the oil is designed to work.
I do use MMO in the fuel, but I wanted to ask all your input on adding it to the oil.

Thank you,

I would add the MMO at in the last 1,000 miles of the OCI because it won't affect the TBN of the oil when added that late into the OCI and it will not have to compete with the additive package which will have been somewhat depleted by then. It will give the oil a boost as well towards the end of the OCI.

In my truck I ran One Quart of MMO with 4 quarts of 5W30 oil at every oil change.

Never had any issues.

Still use it in the gas in our vehicles now.

+1

Shell (SOPUS) oils are very good with an excellent add pack in it already. I add a pint of MMO at the last 750 or 800 miles prior to my next oil change. It's not really necessary to add MMO any earlier. When added at the end of your OCI the MMO will clean out the innards of the engine and the oil should be much darker when you drain it out.

My own experience has been that when I add new oil after using MMO for the last 750 miles of the prior oil fill, the effects of the MMO are still present in the engine and my engine runs even smoother and quieter than it would have if I had not used MMO at all.
