I was curious if you can mix different generations of Dexos1 oils in the same brand/weight? I just did an oil change in the Accord with Valvoline FS 0W-20 w/Maxlife Dexos1 gen 1. No store around me sells the gen 1 stuff in the same brand/weight/version as I assume gen 2 supersedes it. Just curious if any knows it's good to go and mix both generations. Thanks.

In your case, the spec may be more about a license to do business and less about leaving your engine without protection if you are one version behind.

I'm pretty sure the Accord doesn't have LSPI issues but I was just curious since sometimes it's not good to mix some oils. Just thought maybe if you guys ever came across this.

I "Frankenbrew" all the time, so do many other on here.

I have yet to see any damage from mixing namebrand oil. Dexos is just a money grab by GM. It makes zero difference in real life for your engine.

GM needs to grab money to pay for the cost of their LSPI-related 1.5l turbo recall. That event illustrates the need for dexos1 Gen 2, but only those of us with Direct Injection Turbo (DIT) engines really need to worry about Gen 2. Some oils are going to have different chemistries from Gen 1 to Gen 2, but mixing them will probably be like mixing Gen 1 M1 and PPPP...mostly likely just fine for most vehicles. We can see from VOAs that PPPP 5W30 changed quite a bit going to Gen 2.

I'm mainly asked because I'm sending a UOA to Blackstone and wanted to keep my Fram Ultra filter on until the 3rd OCI and to get a better reading for using the same type of oil if it's benefiting our cars.

Nothing you drive will be effected one way or the other (where LSPI is concerned). But on a larger scale, Virtus_Probi's explanation is spot on.
