Mixing Redline D4ATF/Valvoline Dexron III

I have about 1.5 quarts of Valvoline that I would like to use up. I am wondering if there is any problem with mixing the D4ATF with the Valvoline, about 50/50 mix ???

I have been using Redline D4ATF in my Ranger's M5OD transmission. I use the D4ATF because it shifts better and the fluid does not turn black as fast as the Valvoline Dexron 3. With either fluid though, I find that it is black by 10,000 miles, so I have been changing the D4ATF at approximately 10K intervals, the transfer case fluid stays red for much longer. Ranger has about 135,000 miles and is mostly driven high speed highway, I think the high speed might be why it turns black so fast.

Also what is the shelf life of ATF ???

I went ahead and mixed the Redline and Valvoline. Should be OK, maybe just change it out a little sooner than 10K.

I bought several quarts of Redline about six months ago, maybe a good move considering the recent steep hike in Redline price that I just heard about. But until I found this site I never considered anything like a lubricant shelf life.

I have about 15 quarts left, so at 25,000 miles per year with 10,000 mile changes and 3 quarts per change - that would be about 2 years.

The shelf life must be more than 2 years ??? Actually what is the Shelf life of atf ???
