Mixing Euro Oils

Hi BITOG - my first post so go easy on me.

I was given some Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5w40 by a friend who sold his Audi. He recommended it for my BMW.

Problem is he gave me only 3 quarts and I need to buy more and it is expensive especially compared to my go to Mobil 1 0w40.

So I see 2 options:

1) Mix it with a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 0w40 for my BMW
2) Use a quart at a time to slightly thicken PU / PP / Quaker State Ultimate Durability xW20 for my Accord

I can't use it for top off as I have virtually no consumption.

I am leaning to option 2 as it is more compatible.

Either option will be just fine, IMO.

I wouldn't mix 2 brands if it was going in my BMW. Use in the Accord like you describe or buy more Euro 5-40.

If the 5w40 is LL01 then you should be fine mixing in the Bimmer.

There's no reason you can't mix oils...except the myths and legends that say you can't. It won't make a bit of difference.

I'd look at the total cost of Mobil 1 for the number of quarts you'd have to purchase for one oil change versus the incremential cost of buying the number of additional PU quarts you need to do a single oil change (i.e. having 3 quarts of PU for free still allows you to buy additional PU for a lot less).

It appears that I have the GTL version of Ultra 5w40.

Should I look to buy Ultra in 20 weight to mix for my Accord so that I match the GTL base oils?

Is there any such thing as compatibility when it comes to base oil?

Seems that VOAs on this site show similar add packs for Mobil 1 0w40 and Pennzoil Ultra 5w40 so on that basis they seem like they might mix.

Do not believe what you read on here. Euro and American oil do not mix!!! Why would they label it Euro if it did?

Hahaha...I forget, that "Euro" stuff uses extra virgin olive oil, that must be why it doesn't mix.
