What do you guys think about mixing a mostly dino oil change with on or two quarts of a premium synthetic like royal purple or amsoil. Any benefit to be had ?

If it's leftovers from previous OCI, go ahead, but don't run it more than 5k miles anyway. You might get a little benefit from add pack from premium oils, and little better flow in the winter.

I would suggest that you mix in NAPA syn or some other cost effective syn. Mixing in RP or Amsoil or RL or etc.... (boutique oils) is just going to drain your wallet quicker.

or Blend.....

If thats what your looking for... just use Motorcraft Blend (its a real good oil)....it will save you a few bucks....and not waste some excellent synthetics.

The only reason to do this would be if you had an orphan quart or two just sitting around and you wanted to use it.
No harm, but maybe no benefit.
I would not do this as a plan.

i would mix something like 2qts napa syn to 5qts maxlife. both same blender and all. my stash pretty much dictates if i mix something or not.

if i were going to plan a mix i would add redline for the ester content and moly. assuming i didnt have a fill of redline

just use motorcraft unless you have some lying around or want to do a longer oci. Way too expensive for little benefit. Especially a $8-10 quart of amsoil or purple.
I was buying 5 quart jugs or motorcraft semi earlier this year for $11.50.
If you look at the add pack of either , you are better off with rotella t-6 for a lot less money .
If you are looking for cleaning then just buy m1 ,pp or pyb.

No , there is no benefit unless you need a lighter wallet.

+1

My stash is very inconsistant. There isnt 1 jug that is the same so Ill be mixing a lot of weird combos. But since this is 2011 SN we are talking about I have nothing to worry about. In my sig my Toyota has a good left over mix I wasnt willing to toss out. Even though I had no plans on buying anything other than Pennzoil products from here on out I still have plenty of left overs from other companies that I refuse to throw away.

I mix 1Q RL with dino oil (G2 or G3) to get the benefits of POE's. I had used M1 on two vehicles purchased new and after 67k miles one, 90k other, started the RL blend. This oil change appeared to have dramtically cleaned the engines. Other than than M1 EP for longer OCI, the syn's aren't worth paying much of a premium. If you can find RL near you, your total cost can be equal to typical syn OC.
