Looks like this filter put up a fight... lol Big hole in the side to drain, remove, or ? The media seems to be well in order.
 
Definitely caught some build up. How many miles are on your Outlander?
 
Had oil changed at the dealer in December because I crashed my bicycle on Thanksgiving morning and broke my lower leg. Filter and oil had 4.5 months and 5100 miles. Vehicle has 65K and change.

Dealership monkeys must have torqued it down, could not get it to budge and my Lisle tool was too big for this filter. Don't know where my channel locks went after our recent move so I drove a screwdriver through it.

C&P-ing a filter is really more of a pain in the backside than I was expecting. I cut it apart with a hack saw and that probably took 10 minutes. A proper filter cutting tool would have made a big difference.

Thought these OEM filters were nitrile, but upon disassembly it appears to be blue silicon

Bypass valve is a real nice design, they definitely put some engineering into it.

The filter media looks exactly like a Toyota OEM cartridge crammed into a can. No end caps, same plastic ring around the inside. No idea on filtration efficiency. There was absolutely nothing in the pleats. Didn't count the pleats, don't really care.

The can and the base plate seem very thick. Filter has a substantial feel to it, very ridgid.

Replaced with a Fram Endurance and ProDS 5w20 from my stash.

I'm not so sure, cutting the can with a hack saw created quite a bit of metal powder that was all over everything. Cutting apart another filter with a proper tool would be a good comparison.
