Mirror Attachment to Cabinet

We have a large 3 door medicine cabinet. About 2 years ago i had the mirror glass replaced on each door due to flaking and it degrading around the edges.

A local glass company did it, and the mirror glass is great. But 2 pieces have recently fallen off. How neither broke i don't know. I'm hesitant to let the glass place attach it again as I'm not sure they know the best way to bond it.

It looks like they used some sort of double sided tape and some black maybe urethane adhesive.

What would be the best method of securing the glass to the smooth maple door? I will need to use a small cable and floss the third piece off so it can be re-attached properly. Luck may not be with me for the third mirror to fall and not break.

Thanks!

P.S. each mirror is about 1 foot by 2 foot and weight, maybe 3-pounds.

Not surprising it didn't hold to plywood, the foam tape held the mirror away and the adhesive didn't have much contact it looks like. And now you have to get the adhesive off the mirror back without ruining the coating. How were they originally held on?

Apparently there's mirror adhesive, never knew that. Get good stuff.

I don't know how its was originally attached as the glass co. removed it. That's the rub, how to remove the adhesive with out ruining the back mirror coating. I'm thinking sand the adhesive carefully and maybe try acetone to remove the double sided tape.

I don't have to get it all off, it just has to be lower than the height of the new adhesive.

But what adhesive to use ?

I would think that trying to remove the adhesive would damage the mirror. I would find some shims just a hair thicker than the foam and glue those to the back of the mirror. Once the glue sets up, put glue on the shims and put the mirrors in place.
