Mirage vs... Phaeton?

Did a search on "Mirage vs" in google, just for fun, and found the above. A somewhat humorous comparison, one that explores the notion that below some price point, one is better off buying used. In a sort of Top Gear way.

I get it, my Caprice was $9,800 with 57,000 miles on it...someone paid new $61k...in 1993 dollars.

Was one of my better car purchases.

Give me th phaeton. Especially the euro spec v10 diesel version. Though I have owned a north American spec w12 powered car. I miss it

3 cylinder with a timing chain , manual transmission, can easily get mid 50s for MPG, 3 quart oil capacity with 7500-10000 mile changes.

I agree, it would be different if it was a choice between the Golf and the Mirage, then I'd take the Golf!

Neither.

If I wanted a land barge, I think I'd rather just get a Crown Vic. At least it'd be cheaper to maintain.

And if it had to be a new penalty box, then I'd choose something slightly less offensive... Accent hatchback maybe, but that's just personal preference.

A drove a Phaeton from Las Vegas to LA and I really liked it. It was a very good car but it appears that the marketing was its downfall. No one could get by the VW label no matter how good the car might be.

just for fun, I just went on to both Chevy, and Holden's websites, and Priced similarly configured Chevy SS, and Holden Commodore SS's
(twin Models, same assembly plant, etc.)

Currently (According to google) $1 USD = $1.41 AUD

Chevy SS - $46,740 USD($65,694.51 AUD)
Commodore SS V Series Redline - $59,122 AUD ($42,063.82 USD)
Had to go up to that spec commodore to meet the Chevy's "Standard Equipment"

and since the question was about paying $61k for a Caprice...
looks like the base Model Caprice, (Which may be what the SS really is... I thought it was VF Commodore...)
is $65,746 AUD ($46,776.63 USD)

Thought I read that the Phaeton had the best AC ever put in a car. It has a photosensor, ultraviolet sensor, air quality sensor and can keep a rear passenger cool at 64.

Why they didn't sell the Phaeton as Audi "9" for $100k is beyond me.

I'd probably just a used Accord or Camry around that price point for the best guy. Which would probably be a 5 year old one. Or maybe an off lease Civic/Corolla. Preferably, certified as well.
